Tear gas fired at Egyptian Islamist protesters

Police in Egypt have fired tear gas at hundreds of Islamist protesters defying a new law that bans unauthorised demonstrations.

According to the Interior Ministry, up to 200 people were arrested across the country.

The protesters had come onto the streets in response to calls from the Muslim Brotherhood.

As well as clashes in Cairo, other protests were dispersed in Giza, Alexandria, Suez, Mahallah and Qena.
