Briton: 'UAE police threatened rape to make me confess'

A British student, who has been jailed in the United Arab Emirates, says police threatened to rape him unless he confessed to cocaine possession.

Ahmad Zeidan, 21, from Reading, told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire that police in Shajah tortured him with metal chains and Tasers into signing an Arabic confession he could not read.

The Aviation Management student, who is now serving a 9 year jail sentence, said one officer claimed he would be promoted after getting to "catch" and "frame up" a Briton.

The UK government said it took all allegations of mistreatment of British nationals "extremely seriously" and would continue to raise the case with UAE authorities.
