Syria conflict: UN peacekeepers held in Golan Heights

An army spokesman in the Philippines says militants in Syria have surrounded a base of Filipino soldiers in the Golan Heights and that there is a tense stand-off with the rebels.

General Domingo Tutaan Junior confirmed that 43 UN peacekeepers from Fiji had been detained by the militants on Thursday.

The UN Disengagement Observer Force (Undof) personnel were detained near Quneitra, during fighting between rebels and government forces.
