Former Peshmerga female commander: 'The men learned to respect me'

Diane Nammi is the founder of Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organization, an NGO providing help for women from Middle East and North Africa, affected by violence based on "honour", female genital mutilation and domestic violence.

As part of theBBC's 100 Women season, Ms Nammi told BBC World News about her days fighting as a commander in the Kurdish Peshmerga armed forces.

She reflected on the sexism she had encountered, and overcame, during her days as a fighter.
