Pakistan's Punjab region hit by dengue fever

Besides the flood-related diseases - on the rise after the torrential rains of past days - Pakistani authorities are also struggling to contain a dengue fever outbreak.

The worst-hit area is Lahore, provincial capital of Punjab.

Doctors say at least 3,000 cases of the disease have been reported in the city and it is feared that the number will increase.

Experts say poor hygiene is responsible for the spread of the disease, but heavy monsoon rains are also providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes, carriers of dengue fever.
