David Miranda detention a 'breach of press freedom' - Neil Wallis

The detention of the partner of a journalist under terror laws is a "blatant breach of press freedom", the former executive editor of the News of the World has said.

David Miranda, 28, was questioned at Heathrow airport on Sunday under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He has worked with his partner, Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald, on a number of stories for the paper, including the publication of US intelligence material leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Neil Wallis told BBC News that Mr Miranda was the "first person to be held for the full nine hours" allowed under the act.
