The Conservatives have won 65% of the seats in England taking a string of former Labour strongholds.

All of England's 533 constituencies have been declared, with the Conservatives winning 345.

Focus has been on the traditional Labour heartlands of County Durham where a number of seats have switched to the Conservatives.

Labour have won 180 seats, the Liberal Democrats seven and Green party one.

St Ives, which was announced as remaining a Conservative seat at about 14:40 on Friday, was the last constituency to declare after the count was delayed by bad weather interrupting the collection of ballot boxes on the Isles of Scilly.

The first at about 23:28 on Thursday was Newcastle Central, which was held by Labour's Chi Onwurah.
