The open-top buses have been and gone.

Those waiting for hours here at the Jolly Miller pub only had 20 seconds to see their heroes in the flesh... but they all said it was absolutely worth it.

Earlier I spoke with a bloke from Australia - he'd flown over just for a chance to soak up the atmosphere at this pub along the parade route.

This is so, so special for Liverpool fans. It's the first time everyone can enjoy winning a league title in 35 years. That's not to diminish the achievements from five years ago, but that came during the Covid season of 2019-20.

There is not a city on this Earth that celebrates like Liverpool - it means so much.

And it's why every inch of this parade route is absolutely rammed.

  2. 'Not an inch of pavement spare'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 26 May

I'm on a cherry picker on The Strand and its a sea of red as far as I can see.

There are flares, there are fireworks going off, everyone's got a flag or a horn or something to make noise - it's deafening.

I can see all the way down The Strand to the Royal Albert Dock and where it is full of red smoke and red flags where and not an inch of pavement left.

There's a real party atmosphere going on here.

  3. Flags, fans and flares await the buspublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 26 May

It's fair to say it's a bit busy down on The Strand, where the parade will reach its climax in a couple of hours' time.

There are nearly as many flags as there are fans and the whole area keeps turning red as flares are set off in the crowd.

Police had asked fans not to use the devices after 17 people, including an officer, were injured during yesterday's celebrations, but it looks like a fair few people have decided to ignore that advice.

  4. Calvin Harris returns as the Liverpool squad's on-bus DJpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 26 May

Calvin Harris is once again the DJ on the team bus for Liverpool’s victory parade.

He's back after receiving an invite from Virgil van Dijk.

The music producer first took on the role in 2022, when the Reds toured the city after lifting both the League Cup and FA Cup.

The turnout is huge. Some fans are on rooftops, one garden has scaffolding erected to enable a better vantage point, and red smoke is floating in the air.

It's very much a family atmosphere, with Liverpool fans of all ages.

It’ll be even more intense on The Strand down in the city centre later today.

Arne Slot may have felt he already knew what managing Liverpool is all about. But by the end of today one imagines he’ll have even more to ponder!

  6. Making up for lost timepublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 26 May

The celebrations are quite a contrast to last time Liverpool won the Premier League.

The world was a very different place five years ago, of course, when strict restrictions on public gatherings were in place during the Covid pandemic.

When Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool won the 2019-20 Premier League title - their first - the players had to celebrate at Anfield behind closed doors because fans were not allowed in.

It really feels like today is very much being regarded as a chance for Reds to make up for lost time and celebrate not only one Premier League titles, but two.

As the old Kop anthem (sort of) goes, You want a Premier League trophy? We've got one to spare... In our Liverpool homes...

Jake said he is "absolutely ecstatic" and it is "a dream come true" to be here.

Absolutely incredible scenes here on The Strand. There is a sea of people continuously streaming down Water Street

Crowds are continuing to build and are now at least 20 people deep on each side.

There are red flags everywhere. Red smoke fills the air. Air horns are blaring.

Oh and Scousers are singing "Mo Salah" to the tune Sit Down by James.

I've never seen as much red - it's a glorious sight for any Liverpool fans.

Liverpool are known for their global fanbase - you'll see their red shirts wherever you go in the world. Even Manchester apparently...

Rhys has come all the way from Sydney for the party. Having taken in yesterday's match at Anfield, he's out here for the parade. Chances are that he'll need the rest of his time in the UK to recover before flying home in a week or so's time.

Rhys tells me: "This isn’t gonna be my first and last time in Liverpool... I will be back, we love the place."

Twins Di and Adele tell me they don’t mind queuing in the rain to get into Blackstock Market.

They said their spirits aren’t dampened and they want to party before the players' open-top bus hits Leeds Street.

The sisters praised their fellow Liverpool fans for cheering Real Madrid-bound right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold at the final game of the season yesterday.

Plumes of red smoke are filling the air as the parade bus makes it way from the south of the city to the north.

It is going to be an incredible few hours.

I've already got goosebumps from the excitement - you can feel it in the air.

So our mate Carl from Radio Merseyside is on one of the open-top buses... but who else can lay claim to having the best seat in the house this afternoon?

Fans have been perching on walls, lampposts and even speed cameras to get a good view.

We reckon this spot by the Royal Liver Building could be a strong contender?

Our message from earlier still applies by the way - we're not the fun police, or your mam... but please take care and look after yourselves and others on this day of celebration in Liverpool!

A bit of rain never stopped a party in Liverpool and spirits haven't been dampened by the arrival of the odd shower.

Some of those who know what the weather can be like on days like this have certainly come very well prepared!

    The noise is deafening.
