    Dame Siobhan McDonagh

While the result for Mitcham and Morden was as expected, it was an emotional speech from Dame Siobhan McDonagh that took onlookers by surprise.

The veteran Labour MP welled up as she spoke about her sister, former Labour general secretary, Margaret Mcdonagh who passed away last year from brain cancer.

“This is my tenth election as the parliamentary candidate for Mitcham and Morden and it’s certainly been the hardest I’ve fought," she said.

Dame McDonagh has held her seat since 1997 and added her sister “would be so proud of what we have achieved today".

Labour won Mitcham and Morden with 25,085 votes, more than 50% of the vote share. In second were the Conservatives with 6,324 closely followed by the Greens with 4,635.

    Bob Blackman

I've just bumped in to Bob Blackman, he's the Conservative who's held the Harrow East seat since 2010.

He's quietly confident he'll cling on.

And whilst Tory supporters gather round the big screen displaying tonight's election coverage, it's clear that Labour supporters in Harrow East are feeling nervous.

I overheard one saying, "can they just get it over with now?"

We're expecting a declaration in the next half an hour or so, I'm told.

  14. Jeremy Corbyn says voters 'want something different'published at 04:03 British Summer Time 5 July

Jeremy Corbyn -who has retained his seat in Islington North as an independent by defeating his former party, Labour- says the result is a message that people there "want something different".

In the new Labour government coming in, he says, his constituents are looking for an end to things like the two-child benefit cap, for regulation of the private rented sector, and for a government that "will search for peace not war, and not allow the terrible conditions to go on that are happening in Gaza".

Vote counters under a large World War Two plane in Barnet Council

The prize for the most impressive counting location in London has to go to Barnet Council where staff are counting ballot papers underneath a huge plane at the RAF Museum in Colindale.

They are counting three key marginal seats Chipping Barnet, Finchley and Golders Green and Hendon.

It's not looking good for the Conservatives who currently hold all three - we’ll find out who will soar to victory some time between 4-6am.
