Plymouth's Michael Foot was one of the great political orators, for more than half his life a political rebel and a thorn in the flesh of the establishment.

He was Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1976 to 1980, and later the Leader of the party.

Foot was heavily criticised by the left for supporting the Falklands campaign, which helped regain some of Mrs Thatcher's falling popularity ahead of the 1983 General Election.

It was Foot's unwillingness to change his appearance, his clothes or his principles, that brought him a popularity rating of just 24%, the lowest since polling began.

In Devon it's been a straight fight between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives, with Labour doing best in the urban areas of Exeter and Plymouth.

Both Nick Clegg and David Cameron have concentrated their campaign visits on Cornwall and while Mr Cameron has been in Devon a couple of times during the official campaigning period, Nick Clegg hasn't visited at all.

Continuing our constituency profiles we arrive in west Cornwall at Camborne & Redruth. Back in 1997 the old Falmouth & Camborne seat was taken off Tory Seb Coe by Labour's Candy Atherton and she successfully defended the seat in 2001.

In 2005 Liberal Democrat Julia Goldsworthy took the seat. But in 2010, after boundary changes, George Eustice seized it for the Conservatives by a majority of just 66 votes.
