    Labour remain in control of Stevenage Borough Council despite losing three wards to the Conservatives.

    The Labour Party now have control of 30 wards, the Conservative Party seven and the Lib Dems hold three.

    There was high drama in the BBC Northampton office earlier when deputy editor Marsha Ramroop had to remove a trapped ear-piece from the ear of newly elected MP for Wellingborough, Peter Bone.

    First Marsha tried with her fingers, before the pliers came out... all to get the tiny ear-piece out. Mr Bone had earlier held his seat for the Conservatives.

    The Conservative Party has taken control of St Albans City and District Council from no overall control previously.

    Milton Keynes remains with no party in overall control of the council.

    The Conservatives gained four wards resulting in 22, coming in a close second to Labour's 23, a loss of two.

    Lib Dems lost one meaning they have 12 and UKIP lost their only councillor.

    The results of the local council elections are starting to come in and already many places are staying blue.

    The Conservative party remain in control of North Hertfordshire District Council after gaining two wards.

    Conservatives now hold 36 seats, they take one each from Labour and the Liberal Democrats. That leaves Labour with 11 and Lib Dems with two.

    The Conservatives consolidate their hold on South Cambridgeshire - with a gain of three wards to bring them up to 38.

    The Liberal Democrats lost two wards, so they're down to 11, while the Independent group are down from eight to six wards. Labour held its one and only ward. The final ward is held by another Independent.

    Labour have retained control of Ipswich Borough Council, with 31 seats.

    The Conservatives now have a tally of 15, having gained seats in St Margaret's, Whitton, Stoke Park, Rushmere and Sprites.

    The Liberal Democrats now have two seats after losing their St Margaret's ward.

    Conservative Norwich North MP Chloe Smith held on to her seat with an increased majority of 4,463 votes to take her total to 19,052.

    "It has always been very, very close and I have always just focused on working hard for my constituents in Norwich North," said Ms Smith.

    Labour's Jessica Asato won 14,589 votes, Glenn Tingle from UKIP won 5,986, the Green Party's Adrian Holmes picked up 1.939, the Lib Dems' James Wright 1,894 and Independent Mick Hardy 132.

    Conservative MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart have been re-elected, external to represent Milton Keynes North and South.

    Mr Stewart said it is an "enormous honour" to serve his constituency.

    Former Norwich South MP Simon Wright said he was "very sorry" to have lost his seat to Labour's Clive Lewis.

    "We have paid a heavy price as a result of the coalition [but] it was the right decision..."

    The new MP for Northampton South, David Mackintosh, has attended his first event since being elected.

    Labour have increased their control at Harlow Council.

    The group - led by Jon Clempner - now has 19 seats on the council compared with the Conservative's 12 and UKIP's two.

    The Conservatives have extended their control of Rochford District Council.

    They gained an extra three seats taking the Tory total tally to 28 on the council. The Liberal Democrats and UKIP both have three seats, Green two and Labour one. The Conservative gains have all come from the Rochford District Residents group which now has two seats.

    The Liberal Democrats have lost control of Three Rivers District Council, which sees no party taking overall control.

    A loss of four seats to the Conservatives leaves the Lib Dems with 19, Conservatives have 17 and no change in Labour's three.
