  1. Former MP: Election campaign 'worst ever'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

Former MP Rob Wilson says the Conservative election campaign was the "worst he has ever been involved in".

The ex-minister, who lost his Reading seat, said the Tories had "shot their own fox" by pledging to overhaul social care funding and mean-test winter fuel payments for pensioners and then it had "all gone downhill since then".

He says he welcomes early changes to the way No 10 works, saying the two-hour cabinet meeting which has just taken place shows a willingness by the PM to consult more widely.

He rejects calls for a change of leadership saying a contest and the general election that would surely follow would not be in national interest.

  2. Starmer: Queen's Speech delay shows 'disruption and chaos'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    The World at One
    BBC Radio 4

The shadow Brexit secretary has said the delay to the Queen's Speech "shows the level of disruption and chaos that the government is in".

Sir Keir Starmer told Martha Kearney, "They've got fundamental problems with any arrangement they come to with the DUP, and fundamental problems with Brexit".

On Brexit negotiations he said the government was "sweeping options off the table before they even started" and that there needs to be "a different tone and approach".

  7. Green: No decision yet on Queen's Speech datepublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

One of Theresa May's closest allies, Damian Green, has said he cannot confirm at this stage whether the Queen's Speech will take place on Monday.

There have been varying reports throughout the day on whether it will be delayed or not.

Mr Green, the newly appointed first secretary of state, told the BBC that it all depended on the progress of the party's talks with the DUP on supporting a minority Tory government - which he suggested were going well.

Ministers, he said, were working on an arrangement that would provide the "stability and parliamentary votes" needed for the government to operate.

He said the "substance" of the government's legislative programme in regard to Brexit and other issues was extremely important.

It feels a bit like Alice in Wonderland.

Politics in the UK turned inside out and upside down after last week's general election. Things that certainly were not going to happen (like Labour's Jeremy Corbyn doing well) did, while what was definitely expected to happen (a Tory majority for Theresa May) did not.

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party is scheduled a week from today: that long-awaited face-to-face meeting between the chief Brexit negotiators of the EU and the UK. The very first one since the UK voted to leave the European Union a year ago.

  15. German view is 'get on with Brexit'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

Jenny Hill, BBC's Berlin correspondent, says Germany is viewing the UK election result as a "wholesale rejection of Theresa May’s hard-Brexit and fierce anti-EU rhetoric" and a "conciliatory approach" may be taken to negotiations.

"Germany was the most shocked and saddened by Britain’s decision to leave," she says.

"In Berlin I think there is a sense now that Britain has made the decision… it’s time for Britain to put up and shut up and get on with it."

Most pollsters got the general election result wrong, although Daily Politics viewers saw Survation chief executive Damian Lyons-Lowe give an accurate prediction on the eve of polling.

Presenter Jo Coburn brought him back, along with Deborah Mattinson who seemed sceptical last week, to see what they made the polls - and the result - along with MPs Barry Gardiner and Grant Shapps.
