  16. Analysis: Labour suffer in Leave-voting Lancashirepublished at 04:58 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    Mike Stevens
    Lancashire political correspondent, BBC News

There was talk of Labour losing support in pro-Leave seats here in Lancashire and that’s definitely been the case.

Each of the three Conservative gains - Burnley, Blackpool South, and Hyndburn - have come in areas where two-thirds of people voted to leave the European Union in the 2016 referendum.

Lancaster and Fleetwood remains red, albeit with a reduced majority, and for that there will be some sighs of relief.

  20. Analysis: Labour cling on in Weaver Valepublished at 04:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    James Mountford
    BBC Radio Merseyside

Quite a change of mood here in Weaver Vale.

An exit poll earlier gave the Tories a 99% chance of snatching this seat from Labour.

But as the ballot papers were counted, it became clear things were not so clear cut.

When deputy acting returning officer Mark Wynn said he wanted to give the candidates a private ‘provisional result’, ahead of a partial recount, it was clear from the emotion in Mike Amesbury’s camp that the outlook for Labour had changed for the better.

In the end, he beat the Conservatives' Adam Wordsworth by just 562 votes.

This really is a super marginal seat - in three of the last four general elections the result has been decided by less than a thousand votes.
