    Ian Paisley has been re-elected as the MP for North Antrim, with a decreased majority.

    The Democratic Unionist Party candidate beat the Ulster Unionist Party's Robin Swann by 12,721 votes, 7,922 votes less than his majority at the 2017 election.

    Patricia O'Lynn of the Alliance Party came third and the Sinn Féin candidate Cara McShane came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 6.9 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 44,000 people, 57.1% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    One of the six candidates, Stephen Palmer (independent) lost his £500 deposit after failing to win 5% of the vote.

    What was initially thought to be a tight race saw the SDLP's Colum Eastwood win back the Foyle seat from Sinn Fein's Elisha McCallion with a huge majority.

    Carla Lockhart has been elected MP for Upper Bann, meaning that the Democratic Unionist Party holds the seat with an increased majority.

    The new MP beat the Sinn Féin candidate John O'Dowd by 8,210 votes. This was more than David Simpson’s 7,992 vote majority in the 2017 general election.

    Eóin Tennyson of the Alliance Party came third and the Ulster Unionist Party's Doug Beattie came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 3.6 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 50,000 people, 60.4% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    All five candidates keep their deposits, after receiving more than 5% of the votes.

    Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has held his seat in Lagan Valley, but with a much reduced majority.

    The DUP stalwart has seen his vote fall by 7,000, while the Alliance candidate Sorcha Eastwood has seen her party’s vote increase by 9,000.

    "I think the people of Northern Ireland are giving us a very clear message, to all the political parties, that they want us to get back around the table and to agree to restore our devolved government," he said.

    "It would be the best Christmas present for the people of Northern Ireland."

    Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has been re-elected as the MP for Lagan Valley, with a decreased majority.

    The Democratic Unionist Party candidate beat the Alliance Party's Sorcha Eastwood by 6,499 votes, down from more than 19,000 two years ago.

    Robbie Butler of the Ulster Unionist Party came third and the Social Democratic & Labour Party's Ally Haydock came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 2.1 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 45,000 people, 60% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    Four of the seven candidates, Ally Haydock (Social Democratic & Labour Party), Gary McCleave (Sinn Féin), Gary Hynds (Conservative) and Alan Love (UKIP) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.

    SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has won back Foyle with a thumping majority of more than 17,000.

    "This is a story about the revival of the SDLP, but it is more about the message and the desires of our city and the people of the north generally," said Mr Eastwood, making his victory speech.

    "We heard you loud and clear, we know you want someone to go to Westminster to fight your case."

    He added the focus now had to be on restoring Stormont.

    "No more excuses will be accepted by the people of our city and the people of Northern Ireland," he said.
