  1. 'People are fed up we don't have a government' - Sir Jeffrey Donaldsonpublished at 02:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

The DUP's Sir Jeffrey Donaldson confessed he was finding it chilly in the Magherafelt count.

"Belfast got the Titanic centre; we got the iceberg," he joked.

On the DUP's performance, he said: It's disappointing when colleagues are going to potentially lose their seats.

    "Alliance has done well.

"Having knocked thousands of doors, the big big issue was Stormont and the crisis in the health service.

"People are fed up we don't have a government."

  4. Boris Johnson 'would take your Alsatian and come back with a Chihuahua'published at 02:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

The acrimony between the DUP and Boris Johnson over his proposed Brexit deal has been no secret.

Retaining his seat in Strangford, the DUP's Jim Shannon has used a dog-related analogy to hit out at the Conservative party leader.

"The union has been degraded and downgraded by Boris Johnson," he said.

"I suppose the best way of describing Boris Johnson is, and it’s for the record, he would take your Alsatian dog for a walk, he’d come back an hour later and he’d give you a Chihuahua - and he would say it was alright."

  9. John Finucane could take North Belfast away from DUP by 1,000 votespublished at 02:14 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

The BBC's Stephen Walker is at the Titanic count centre, and is hearing from a "number of well-placed sources" that Sinn Féin's John Finucane could be set to take North Belfast by about 1,000 votes.

Stephen Walker said: "What a story that would be, to see Nigel Dodds lose his seat in North Belfast. The deputy leader of the party, the leader of the party at Westminster. That would be one of the big stories of the night."

  14. Strangford: Democratic Unionist Party holdpublished at 02:02 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

Jim Shannon has been re-elected as the MP for Strangford, with a decreased majority.

Voter turnout was down by 4.2 percentage points since the last general election.

  16. 'A very good night' for Alliancepublished at 01:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    Jayne McCormack
    BBC News NI political reporter

The Alliance Party will be thinking their decision to stand candidates in all 18 constituencies- and not get involved in a pro-remain pact - has paid off.

Not only have they taken North Down with Stephen Farry's win, but in East Antrim and Lagan Valley - two DUP strongholds - they are running a closer race than expected and the DUP vote looks to be down.

“A very good night,” an Alliance source tells me, also indicating they could be playing for third spot in South Down.

Alliance went into this election hoping to re-take East Belfast but are now hopeful for entirely different reasons.

They are privately conceding they are unlikely to defeat DUP’s Gavin Robinson, but I’m also hearing it will be closer this time than two years ago.
