Pence says America's political system is superior to the "crony corrupt capitalist system in Russia in every way".

"That the small and bullying leader of Russia has been stronger on the world stage than this administration - that's stating painful facts. That's not an endorsement of Vladimir Putin. That's an indictment of the weak and feckless leadership of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."

One former Republican presidential candidate says Kaine is annoying.

"Hillary Clinton has gone toe to toe with Russia," Kaine says, reminding the viewers of her experience as secretary of state.

Pence says Putin will respect Donald Trump because of his "strength. Plain and simple."

Kaine tells the audience to "go to the tape" to show that Pence "said inarguably that Vladimir Putin is a better leader than Barack Obama".

Pence fires back that he did not, saying that he called him stronger.

Kaine suggests Trump is the "fool or maniac" that Reagan once warned could trigger a "catastrophic event" on nuclear weapons when it comes to proliferation. 

"And I think that’s who Pence’s running mate is", Kaine says. 

“Senator, that is even beneath you and Hillary Clinton and that is pretty low,” Pence says.

Pence: "Donald Trump supports our troops."

Kaine: "He won't pay taxes."

Pence: "Do you not take deductions?"

Kaine: "Do you think he's smart to not pay taxes?"

Kaine: "Hillary has an ability to stand up Russia, while Trump has again and again praised Vladimir Putin and clearly has business links with Russian oligarchs close to the Russian president."

He adds: "If you don't know the difference between dictatorship and leadership then you've got to go back to a fifth-grade civics class."

Pence reminds viewers that Clinton had a private server in her home with info on drone strikes and emails of the president of the United States. 

"If your son or my son handled classified information the way Hillary Clinton did they'd be court-martialled," Pence tells Kaine.

Pence defends his failed move to block Syrian refugees from settling in Indiana. He adds: “Two Syrian refugees were involved in an attack on Paris that was called France’s 9/11. You’ve got to err on the side of the safety and security of the American people.” Kaine accuses him of betraying the Jeffersonian values that America was founded on.

A US federal appeals court upheld a preliminary injunction blocking Pence's effort to prevent the resettlement of Syrian refugee families in Indiana, ruling that Pence's objection was based on "nightmare speculation".

Kaine says Trump loves dictators and has a "personal Mount Rushmore", Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong un and Muammar Gaddafi. “Oh, come on! Did you work on that one a long time?” Pence asks sarcastically. “It had a lot of creative lines in it.” Pence argues: "America is less safe today since the day Barack Obama became president."

"Donald Trump cannot start a Twitter war with Miss Universe without shooting himself in the foot,” Kaine said, reminding the audience of Alicia Machado, whom Trump attacked in a string of late night tweets after the first presidential debate.

Kaine: "There's only one candidate who can defeat terrorism and that's Hillary Clinton - she was part of the national security team that took out Osama Bin Laden, she will take out Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi."

Kaine says Pence is trying to "fuzz up" Trump's pledge to build a wall and deport undocumented immigrants, quoting him as saying: "They will all be gone." Kaine says: "We are a nation of immigrants." He brings up Trump's comments on Mexican-Americans and says he can't imagine how Pence could defend that.
