Wet Leg are one of the favourites tonight, a week on from their Grammys wins

There's been a huge conversation about the fact that one year after they combined the male and female categories into one best artist category, there are no women nominated at all.

And the feeling is that this is indicative of a wider problem in the British music industry. If you look at all the acts signed to a record label in the UK, only 20% are women.

In that best artist category, there were 70 people put forward for the award and only 12 were women. And there's certainly a debate over whether somebody like Florence and the Machine or Charli XCX could have been up for that award...

But overall tonight, I think when the ceremony ends and you look at the categories as a whole it looks like there will probably be a fairly even split between the male and female winners.

The good people at Transport for London (TFL) are so keen to ensure that everyone's a winner tonight that they've prepared a sign showing the names of ALL of the Brits nominees for commuters to check out on arrival at the O2 Arena.

See if you can spot your favourite.

  5. Unexpected names on the red carpetpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    Colin Paterson
    Entertainment Correspondent, BBC News

Always fun to see the more random names on the list of who will walk the red carpet: S Club 7 (23 years after they won British Breakthrough Act), the actress Salma Hayek (who oddly has a total of one song on Spotify, La Bruja from the Frida Soundtrack) and fresh from a 1-1 draw against Chelsea earlier today, West Ham Captain Declan Rice.

West Ham’s only ever chart hit was the FA Cup final single I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles, which made 31 in 1975.

This was two years before the Brits started, thus cruelly depriving it of the chance of being nominated for Best British Song.

Clara Amfo just stopped by. She’ll be presenting the red carpet show on ITV2, where Rising Star winners Flo will receive their award.

She says it’ll be presented by a former winner… “but I can’t say who”.

Probably not Adele, but maybe Ellie Goulding or Jorja Smith?

  7. Who's nominated for Best Artist of the Year?published at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

Last year, Adele scooped up the coveted prize.

The potential winners for 2023 are:
