We're more than halfway through the show now.
I'm with an audience of industry insiders at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the show is getting full marks for its pace and - so far - lack of controversy.
The donkey got a huge cheer.
For the first hour, there was a palpable buzz around Everything Everywhere All At Once. There was a sense the Academy voters had tapped into the zeitgeist - a film millions of moviegoers have lauded for its inventiveness and deviation from the norm.
Winning in two of the major categories, it seemed that the film was almost unbeatable for Best Picture.
Until, that is, All Quiet on the Western Front shot into the lead with four wins, including Best Production Design.
We could be in for a Best Picture surprise.
The award goes to Sarah Polley for Women Talking.

All Quiet on the Western Front is making a lot of noise. After its shock win in best production it has taken original score.
It now has four wins.
Everything Everywhere All at Once has won nothing for two hours, since it took both supporting actor categories.
This is almost a repeat of what happened at Baftas, where All Quiet won.
The screenplay awards will tell us so much.
Can Everything Everywhere take original screenplay?
Can All Quiet take adapted screenplay?
These categories have the feel of semi-final about them.

As the Oscars nears its final hour, Hollywood is preparing for a night of partying ahead.
One such event is the Vanity Fair party, where we're already poised to speak to stars as they roll in after the ceremony.
Some celebrities (who aren't invited to the Oscars this year) are here for a watch party before the fun begins.
Alan Cumming thought he recognised our entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson as he entered: “Are you the bloke I met in a garden centre near my place in Perth?”
“No!” replied Colin, a bit shocked.
“Oh, must have been another Scottish baldie,” laughed Alan.

Rihanna has got her first best song Oscar nomination with Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, created with Tems, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Göransson.
Lift Me Up marks the first solo song Rihanna has recorded since her last album, ANTI, which was released in 2016.
She is no stranger to award ceremonies, and is a nine-time Grammy Award winner. She also has eight multi-platinum albums and 14 singles that have reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Earlier this month, Rihanna dazzled Super Bowl viewers with a soaring, solo half-time show, in which she publicly revealed her second pregnancy with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky.

Avatar: The Way of Water's win is very well deserved, this film completely envelops you in the world of the Na'vi, both on land and underwater.
You can read about how the effects were created here, along with an interview with Joe Letteri - who already has four Academy Awards under his belt - and Eric Saindon, who helped create Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It's another win for All Quiet on the Western Front, which features a three-note bar that punctuates the film's tensest moments.
The guttural score is perfect for this brutal anti-war film, evoking the horror of the trenches during World War One.
Composer Volker Bertelmann has been nominated previously by the Academy (for Lion), but this is his first win. Congratulations!

Jamie Lee Curtis just graced the backstage interview room with her glowing and hilarious presence. Fresh off her first Oscar win for best supporting actress in Everything Everywhere all At Once, Curtis addressed everything from the need for more women in film, her trans daughter, and her new favourite subject, being a "nepo baby".
And of course she kept the whole room laughing the entire time. But she did get serious for a moment, when she talked about accepting the Academy Award in honour of her parents, actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. "Let me just be honest, I don’t believe in a world where there are a bunch of people looking down on us," Curtis said. "I think we are them in our actions and in our deeds and in our ideas. I am a proud product of them and I know they would be incredibly proud of me."
Then, in true Jamie Lee-style, she burst into what she said was a Hungarian song before answering the next question in honour of her father's ancestry. It wasn't half bad.

The BBC's reporter Colin Paterson tells us this win for best production design now makes All Quiet on the Western Front a serious best picture contender.

A bit of Four Weddings and a Funeral nostalgia here, with Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell presenting.
Hugh Grant is joking about them reflecting the importance of using a moisturiser, saying MacDowell was "still stunning" while he was now "basically a scrotum".
This prompted much hilarity, but they both look pretty good to us!
The award goes to Christian M Goldbeck (production design) and Ernestine Hipper (set direction) for All Quiet on the Western Front production design.
