What a moment for Ke Huy Quan - he’s won for Everything Everywhere All at Once, in which he plays Waymond Wang, the co-owner of a laundromat, who becomes enmeshed in a multiverse adventure.

He started as a child actor in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and was also in The Goonies a year later. But after that, the acting dried up and he worked in stunts and directing.

What a way to return though - inspired by 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians - he really deserves this Oscar.

This win is also notable as an Oscar for an actor of colour, in an awards ceremony which has been criticised over its lack of diversity.

In previous years, the orchestra has played if anyone's speech has gone on too long... with mixed results to say the least.

This year, host Jimmy Kimmel said that if anyone overruns, the dancers from the film RRR, for which the very lively song Naatu Naatu is up for best song, will escort them off the stage.

They did a quick demo, and twirled around Kimmel off while edging him off the stage. Let's see if it works!

As expected, Guillermo del Toro - who is no stranger to the Oscars having previously won two Academy Awards for The Shape of Water - has picked up the first prize of the night for his version of classic tale Pinocchio. The dark stop-motion adaptation recently won the Bafta's equivalent award, too.

The puppets were made by animation studio Mackinnon and Saunders, based in Altrincham, Greater Manchester. Read more here.

  10. Jimmy Kimmel highlights Till and The Woman Kingpublished at 00:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2023

Both of these films missed out on best actress nominations for Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Viola Davis (The Woman King).

Much has been made of this, with Deadwyler telling the BBC the film industry is "deeply impacted by systemic racism".

However host Jimmy Kimmel was sure to mention both of these films in his opening speech, saying how notable they were despite their absence.

Quick look back at the red carpet: Lady Gaga will be performing the Oscar-nominated ballad Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick at tonight's show.

It wasn't clear whether the pop star would be able to make show due to demands on filming Joker: Folie à Deux - looks like she was able to free up her schedule.

It will be the first Academy Awards in three years to include performances of all of the songs that have been nominated.

Jimmy Kimmel has returned to host for a third time.

He was at the helm during 2017’s Envelopegate, and steered things back on track.

The awards’ organisers are keen for things to run smoothly, and also to get those all-important TV ratings.

Oscars ratings have been falling in recent years, although last year saw a slight improvement, external with the first full ceremony after the pandemic.

In a statement last November, Kimmel joked: "Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honour or a trap.

"Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no."

We may have just had the first awkward moment of the night when an ABC presenter asked Kate Hudson what it was like to win an Oscar.

Her response? "I've never won an Oscar...But I'm sure it's amazing."

Hudson has got an Oscar nomination under her belt. She received a nod for Best Supporting Actress nominee in 2001 for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous.

Cate Blanchett, who is of course up for best actress for Tar, is no stranger to the Oscars.

I remember her delight when she won in 2004 for The Aviator (I was reporting from LA in the winners' room) and she also won in 2014 for Blue Jasmine. This is her seventh nomination, and she is looking stunning in blue and black flowing silk.

So, earlier on Instagram stories, external, actress Florence Pugh flagged up that she had a blemish on her cheek, and posted a picture of it (it really didn't look bad at all to us!).

Anyway, with the wonders of make-up and styling, she looks as glamorous and unusual as you'd expect. Florence is known for looking striking on the red, ahem, champagne carpet. She's in a short, black body-hugging outfit framed by flowing, champagned-coloured silk ruffles.

    Not a blemish in sight!

Michelle Yeoh is of course nominated for best actress for Everything, Everywhere All at Once.

Halle Berry, who is presenting this year, won the same category in 2002 for Monster's Ball. It was momentous, as she was the first woman of colour to win this category.

But since then, all the best actress winners have been white. Could Michelle Yeoh be about to change this tonight? Stay tuned.
