  1. Round-up of school closures across the UKpublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The snow is affecting schools up and down the country this morning. Here's a list of the areas we know to be affected:

    • More than 140 schools are shut for the day across Yorkshire, some of the school closures are available here, external. Many centre around Bradford, but the whole region has been affected
    • Suffolk County Council has closed more than 200 schools in the area after the county received 10cm (4 inches) of snow
    • And in Kent, Sussex and Surrey, more than 180 schools have been forced to close

    We'll keep you updated as details of more closures reach us.

    Heathrow says it is operating as normal - although some outbound flights are cancelled and many arrivals are delayed.

    The council areas which have closed all schools include;

    • Scottish Borders
    • East Lothian
    • Fife
    • Clackmannanshire
    • Edinburgh
    • Midlothia
    • West Lothian
    • Falkirk
    • Stirling
    • North Lanarkshire
    • South Lanarkshire
    • East Dunbartonshire
    • Glasgow
    • West Dunbartonshire
    • East Renfrewshire
    • Renfrewshire
    • Inverclyde

    A number of other councils including East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Moray, Perth and Kinross, Highland and Dumfries and Galloway have some closures.

    All Dundee and South Ayrshire schools will be open as normal on Wednesday.

  4. School closures in Kent, Sussex and Surreypublished at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    More than 180 schools across Kent, Sussex and Surrey have closed due to snow.

    It comes as south east England expected between 5-10cm of the white stuff overnight. An amber weather warning remains in place in the area until 10:00 GMT.

    The snow teams at Glasgow airport are working to clear the runway. It plans to reopen the runway at 9:00 GMT.

  6. Road closures in northern Englandpublished at 08:22 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Road closures have been announced across the UK after icy conditions overnight left them unsafe for travel.

    In Cheshire, the A537 Cat and Fiddle road and the A54 from the Boseley lights have both been closed.

    In Northumbria, meanwhile, eastbound traffic on the A690 is being diverted off at West Rainton on to the A182, which is currently blocked.

    The A685 Ash Fell road in Cumbria has also been closed due to the weather.

    Further north in Scotland, the A90 is restricted southbound due to a broken down HGV.

    British Airways has warned of some delays and disruption to flights on Wednesday., external It's reducing its flight schedule for several hours today and flights for later in the week will be reviewed.

    EasyJet also says some flights may be delayed or cancelled and urges travellers to check the online flight tracker., external

    The last information issued from Ryanair was on Tuesday, , externaltelling customers they plan to run a full schedule and if flights are disrupted anyone who has a booking will be told.

    Flybe is telling passengers to continue to check in as normal, external and check its website for updates.

    The cold weather continues to lead to school closures across the country.

    • More than 70 schools in North Yorkshire are closed, details are available on the council website, external
    • Over 60 schools are also closed in West Yorkshire, mainly in the Bradford area. More details are available on local authority sites
    • At least 10 schools are also closed in the South Yorkshire area

    Temperatures across the country will feel sub zero due to the wind chill, with -11C felt in Norwich and -12C in Aberdeen, she says.

    Tens of thousands of schoolchildren have been affected by school closures as severe weather in Scotland batters the country.

    BBC correspondent Catriona Renton said "the weather conditions on the road have been treacherous" with many motorways affected.

    The M74, the main route between Scotland and England, is affected, and the Forth Bridge is closed due to high wind speeds.

    Forecasters have warned the "feels like temperature" will be much colder because of a bitterly cold wind chill.

    The Met Office also updated its weather warnings for Thursday, Friday and Saturday to include wind.
