    There are 144 properties without power in Camborne, Cornwall, with Western Power Distribution, external saying they are aiming to get power back by 00:30 on Sunday.

    A further 285 properties are without power near Little Petherick, Cornwall, but they should get it back by 20:30.

    There are at least eight other places with power out, with about 50 properties at each incident.

    The River Teign has burst its banks alongside the A38 and B3344 near Chudleigh in Devon and may flood the road, police have warned.

    A clip posted on Twitter this afternoon highlights the strength of the winds Storm Dennis has brought to the UK.

    South Stack Lighthouse, in Holyhead, north Wales, can be seen in the footage as fierce waves lash the shore.

  4. River Calder expected to peak on Sunday morningpublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2020

    The Environment Agency are currently predicting river levels in West Yorkshire will reach their peak on Sunday morning.

    In Mytholmroyd, where troops have been drafted in to shore up flood defences, the River Calder is currently due to peak at 3.21m at 09:15 tomorrow.

    The agency says that if the river reaches 3.82m some properties may be flooded.

    Meanwhile, further up the river at Hebden Bridge the river is due to peak at 1.81m at about 05:30.

    According to the agency some properties may be flooded if the river reaches 2.17m.

  7. Hebden Bridge residents 'very tense'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2020

    People in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire are feeling "very tense" according to flood warden Andrew Entwistle.

    “People are absolutely exhausted from last week," he told the BBC.

    "It’s almost like a war weariness – they’re just resigned to it happening again.

    “We just have to get on with it though because this is not going away and each time it happens we get better prepared.”

    The 75-year-old former firefighter said flood wardens and other volunteers are expecting to be working through the night.

    He added: “We have a brilliant team of volunteers working to make sure people are safe – last weekend one of the wardens rescued three people trapped in a flooded building.

    “But things were so bad it’s a miracle no one died.”

  8. Train travel updatepublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2020

    Heavy rainfall and strong winds have caused disruption to train routes across the UK today.

    Some trains have been cancelled or delayed due to flooding or fallen trees blocking the tracks.

    Rail replacement buses have been offered on some routes, whilst National Rail has put speed restrictions in place on certain lines for passenger safety.

    National Rail says a number of operators are affected and is continuing to urge people to check for updates before they travel.

    In Scotland, the line between Perth and Pitlochry was closed because of flooding.

    And the Highland mainline was also forced to close because of high water levels at Inver.

    This is the scene on the A379 between Starcross and Exminster in Devon where a tree has fallen on to the road.

    Inspector Si Jenkinson from Devon and Cornwall Police said it “another reason to avoid driving" during Storm Dennis.

    "It isn’t just the rain and standing water," he said, adding: "High winds cause debris and the potential for fallen trees.”

    Dorset-based photographer Simon Emmett captured this dramatic shot of the stormy seas at Lyme Regis Cobb harbour wall.The landmark was made famous in the 1981 film The French Lieutenant's Woman where Meryl Streep walked to the end of the Cobb in a storm.

    The structure also featured in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion.

  15. Dozens of flood warnings in force across UKpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2020

    There are 28 flood warnings and 228 flood alerts in force across England, the Environment Agency says.

    Warnings mean that flooding is expected and immediate action is required. Alerts mean that flooding is possible and people should be prepared.

    Meanwhile there are 20 flood warnings and 15 flood alerts are in place across Scotland, according to the Scottish Environment Agency.

    There are two flood warnings and 35 flood alerts in force in Wales, according to Natural Resource Wales.

    Jim Dale, a Senior Risk Meteorologist at British Weather Services thinks the storm is still in its early stages.

    "No storm is ever the same and at this moment in time I would suggest to you, at this moment, for most part in the UK this might be classed as what you might call a standard winter-type storm - a lot of wind, a lot of rain. perhaps not too unusual.

    "But I think, I think the worst is yet to come. Certainly in terms of wind, and the rain will only build," he says.

    The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, which operates ferry services in the Irish Sea, has suspended services between the island's capital Douglas and Heysham in Lancashire.

    It says there may be no sailings until Monday morning but "the situation will be checked regularly in case any can run."
