    A body has been found in the search for a man who fell from a fuel tanker off the coast of Kent

    A coastguard helicopter, a Royal Navy warship and RNLI lifeboats had joined the operation around Margate Harbour.

    Authorities were alerted at 05:40 GMT to reports the man had gone overboard from a liquid petroleum gas tanker that was anchored off the harbour overnight, before Storm Dennis hit.

    A body was found in the water at about 13:00 after a seven-hour search in "very rough seas", the coastguard said.

  6. Water pumps installed in Carlislepublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2020

    The Environment Agency has installed two temporary pumps at Warwick Road, in Carlisle.

    The area has suffered from a number of flooding incidents over the years, and there was a substantial amount of standing water during last weekend’s storm.

    Stewart Mounsey, from the agency, said: “We know this made residents worried, so this weekend we’ve got the two pumps and operatives ready to man them if there is a problem.”

    Meanwhile, Cumbria's mountain rescue volunteers are making plans to support the county's emergency services if required this weekend.

    Richard Warren, chair of the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, said: “We need that because of the flooded becks we have on the hills when we’re doing some rescues, but also to serve the communities."

    There are 18 flood warnings and 198 flood alerts, external in force across England according to the Environment Agency.

    A warning means flooding is expected and action should be taken immediately while an alert means it is possible and people should be prepared.

    Warnings include the North Sea at Scarborough, Lower Avon at Christchurch, Upper Frome at Maiden Newton and Aire, Dart, Dee, Lemon, Ouse, Severn, Teign, Washford and Yarty rivers.

    More travel disruption, and Wightlink Travel has cancelled the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry service.

    The Portsmouth to Fishbourne ferry is still running but Wightlink said it cannot be guaranteed for the rest of the day and people should only travel if essential.

    The arrival of the army in Mytholmroyd has been welcomed by Calderdale Council deputy leader Jane Scullion.

    Forty soldiers have been deployed in Ilkley and 42 in Mytholmroyd.

    Ms Scullion said they would be providing reassurance for people as well as using their engineering experience to check river walls and reinforce them where they are weak.

    She said soldiers would also be helping to manage traffic as there have been problems with people driving through deep flood water, endangering themselves but also causing bow waves which damage businesses and properties.

    She added that people were “tired and still recovering from last weekend” but that they are stoical.

    “People are as prepared as they can be," she said, adding: "Climate change is very real in Calderdale. People know what it means.”

    HM Coastguard are continuing the search for a man reported to have gone overboard from a vessel near Margate, in Kent.

    It's not thought that the weather had any part to play in his going overboard, but the search for him could be affected by the storm.

    Storm Dennis is due to bring rain and gales across the south-east of England later.
