    A 13-year-old boy has been praised by firefighters after saving two young children from a house fire in Bradford when a hoverboard exploded.

    Jibril Faris dragged friend Tony Chiem, nine, and his sister Karen, eight, from the living room at the St Mary's Drive property and dialled 999 on Friday.

  4. Migrant worker went on a crime spree on his last day in the UKpublished at 18:40

    A Bulgarian migrant worker due to be flown home by a council carried out a crime spree on his last day in the UK.

    Police arrested Annis Ghafoor on suspicion of theft on 5 November but released him without charge as Cornwall Council had already paid for his ticket to return to Bulgaria the next day.

    He then stole from a church and tried to steal a pensioner's bag in Camborne.

    The family of a 98-year-old woman ensured she had her dying wish fulfilled when she was taken to her funeral in a yellow hearse.

    Ethel Westover from Lancaster made her final journey in a yellow Reliant Regal like the car driven by Del Boy in BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

  8. Storms bring rise in turtle strandingspublished at 18:12

    Wildlife experts are battling to save the life of a young loggerhead turtle rescued from a beach on the Isles of Scilly. 

     The endangered loggerhead is one of a number of turtles appearing in UK waters. 

     Fiona Smith, from the Sea Life centre, said: "This young turtle is clearly a fighter and has made it through the night, as well as across a long journey to get here, so we're all very hopeful."

  9. Paedophile who abused baby kills himself in prisonpublished at 18:04

    A man who was jailed for his part in a "depraved" paedophile ring has killed himself in prison.

    Robin Hollyson, 31, from Luton, was sentenced to 24 years in prison last year, at Bristol Crown Court.

    The trial heard he was filmed abusing a baby as part of a gang of seven paedophiles, who streamed some attacks on children over the internet.

    He killed himself in his cell after he was taken off suicide watch at Horfield prison in Bristol, the BBC understands.

     Esmé Rose Weir died following the incident in Gladstone Road, Neston, at about 12:00 GMT on Friday.

  13. London home of Dickens take you behind the scenes of popular dramapublished at 17:27

    A new exhibition at Charles Dickens' home in Holborn will take visitors behind the scenes of a popular BBC One drama - called Dickensian. 

    Costumes, props and parts of the set will all be on display until April and Ayshea Buksh has been to take a look.

  14. Funeral for student who died on way home from night outpublished at 17:24

    An 18-year-old Sheffield student who died on her way home from a night out was described as "a young woman with a zest for life" at her funeral.

    Hundreds packed into Grenoside Crematorium Chapel earlier to pay their respects to Caroline Everest, known as Carrie.

    Ms Everest's body was found in a river on 24 November, two days after she was reported missing.

    A man who died from an electric shock on an artificial football pitch has been named as Albert Xhediku.

    The 34-year-old died in hospital after he was electrocuted on the outdoor pitch at Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth on Sunday evening.

  16. Man killed near Tube station during rush hourpublished at 16:59

    A man in his 20s was stabbed to death during the morning rush hour close to Morden Tube station.

    Ambulance crews and police were called to Kendor Gardens at 08:07 GMT and found the man with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

  17. Man jailed for life for killing housematepublished at 16:50

    A man has been found guilty of murdering his housemate in their home in Westcliff-on-Sea, in Essex last year.   

    Carlyle Daley, 47, killed 50-year-old Jeffery Shepherd at the property in Beedell Avenue on 5 July last year.   

    Following the sentencing of her father's killer, the daughter of the victim said her loss was "indescribable".

  19. Poppi Worthington: Father's statementpublished at 16:35

    After a judge ruled that 13-month old Poppi Worthington was sexually assaulted by her father shortly before her sudden death  a statement's been released by his lawyers.

    Paul Worthington, 47, denies any wrongdoing. 

    The statement says:

    Mr Worthington does not accept the findings of the court... Mr Worthington maintains that he has given a truthful account of the events of 12.12.12 and that he has not hurt his daughter."
