    By midday today, the Anglia Ruskin University clearing centres , externalhad taken 1,385 calls. 

    The centres, based in Cambridge and Chelmsford, offer help to students looking to get on a course after receiving their A-level results today

    The university expects this year to be incredibly busy, receiving more applications than ever before. 

    The lines opened at 07:00 and close at 20:00.

    Attending a specialist maths school may be some people's worst nightmare, but budding young mathematicians have been travelling from across the country to attend one in south London.

    King's College London Mathematics School was started in Lambeth two years ago, and pupils have been finding out their A-level and AS results.

    With all students at the school receiving either A* or A in maths, there has been plenty of celebrating.

    Some of the students spoke to BBC News after they learned of their grades.

    In spite of having a two-hour journey from Leicestershire each day, Henry Sinclair-Banks says he "doesn't think twice about the commute. I love this place".

    Katie Nicholls, from Chelmsford, was among the hundreds of thousands of students finding out about her A-Levels today.  Fortunately, things worked out rather well for her - she got an A in history, an A* in sociology and an A in English literature, meaning she's off to Exeter University.

    Oxfordshire County Council has estimated that about 95% of students have gained two or more A-Levels at the A* to E pass rate in the county.

    This would be close to the 2015 figure - 94.5% - although the confirmed results will be published later in the year.

    The University of Northampton has taken hundreds of calls already today from students who've received their A-level results, but haven't been offered places on degree programmes.

    They're being matched with vacancies on courses in a process known as "clearing".

    Tutors are available for prospective students to talk to about their options.

    Antony Bounds, the university's head of admissions, said: "We're hoping to fill about 350 to 400 places.

    "It's been a really positive recruitment drive for the institution."

    For the second year running, the A-level pass rate in Peterborough, external is above the national average. 

    It's now at 98.3%, up by 0.1%. The national average is at 98.1%.

    "Today's results are a further example of the huge strides being made in improving education in Peterborough," said John Holdich, leader of Peterborough City Council and cabinet member for education.

    "We are never complacent, however, and will continue to work hard with headteachers to make sure our performance continues to improve."

    The fourth most popular hashtag is #clearing with many keen to reassure today's students that bad results don't equal failure.

    Many have shared their own experiences of still realising their own career goals despite not getting their first choice at university.

    A Lancashire teenager who has battled mental health issues has urged fellow sufferers to not "let the condition stop you".

    Straight A student Lotte Gleeson from Pendle spent six months dealing with anxiety that made studying and socialising difficult. 

    The 18-year-old who studied at Nelson and Colne College will head to Oxford next month to study Physics after getting A* in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry and an A in Physics.

    The A-level students will be among the last to study for the qualifications at schools in the borough, as in April, academy governors agreed to close Halewood Academy sixth form, the last institution to offer the examinations.
