    Tributes have been paid to a teenage girl with "a smile that could brighten anyone's day" after her body was found on a pathway. 

    Friends and family shared their memories of the 16-year-old, named locally as Leonne Weeks, as an 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of her murder remained in police custody, external.

    The man was arrested last night after a body was found by a member of the public just off Lordens Hill in Dinnington.

    Two men looking like these e-fits are wanted by police after they forced a woman in to their car in Sheffield.

    Police say a 45-year-old woman was reportedly pulled over by two men driving a silver car with blue flashing lights. She was told to get into the men’s car and she was taken to an area off Spotswood Place.

    The woman received minor injuries before she was able to escape and contact police.

    The incident was in May last year, external and officers say that despite a previous public appeal no arrests have been made.

    An 18-year-old man is being questioned over her death after being arrested last night.

    A rare archaeological find in North Yorkshire is to appear on a new set of stamps from today.

    The Starr Carr headdress is among eight artifacts from Ancient Britain, external to be chosen. 

    A number of reed antler headdresses have been found at the Stone Age site near Scarborough. They are thought to have been worn for rituals.

    Poison pen notes claiming a named person is a danger to children has seen police take action to denounce the claims.

    The notes were left in various locations at Skipton.

    Officers are trying to find those responsible for the notes and say the claims are false.

    The person named is not known to police and does not pose a risk to the local community. It is believed that the notes are designed to cause the individual named upset and harassment, and as such the sender of the notes may be guilty of offences."

    Huddersfield has a few internationally-known people it can claim as its own: Former prime minister Harold Wilson, James Mason, the man who bought us Aston Martin - David Brown and Hollywood actress Jodie Whittaker to name a few.

    But none are perhaps as famous as Tish Simmonds. She became known all over the world because of a Vine she posted in 2014. It gained her tens of millions of followers.

    Vine is being closed down this year, and Tish say's she's "devastated". (Or "she's totes devo'd" as the kids say.). She posted this tweet to express as much along with her most famous post:

    Admittedly it's not the most profound post you'll ever see, but people loved it none-the-less.

    She says she'll miss her friends that she's made on it.

    One of her highlights has been starring in a film with fellow Viner Dapper Laughs and she's vowing to continue on Facebook and YouTube with some comedy sketches.

    Dirty vans and lorries always lend themselves very nicely to amusing messages and the police vehicles are no exception.

    One member of the public left a couple of messages on the back of a West Yorkshire Police van which reads "no prisoners left in van overnight".

    Another message under the slogan "Protecting communities" left the words "like Batman".

    The police don't seem too bothered though, they posted a message on Facebook, external "It is pleasing to know that the public of Bradford liken Bradford West Officers to the world's greatest superhero, 'Batman'!!"

    A man who killed three members of the same Sheffield family in the 1980s has failed in his human rights challenge over a whole-life jail sentence

    Arthur Hutchinson was jailed in 1984 for stabbing Basil and Avril Laitner to death after breaking into their home in Dore on the night of their daughter's wedding, then killing one of their sons.

    Today the European Court of Human Rights has returned a Grand Chamber verdict after he claimed that the punishment amounted to inhuman and degrading treatment as he had no hope of release.

    The Court has concluded that whole-life sentences in the UK can be regarded as compatible with the Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

    Dog owners are being warned they could kill their pets with kindness.

    The charity PDSA , externalsays animals are suffering through being overfed and given too many unhealthy treats.

    More than 80% of vets have seen an increase in animal obesity in the last two years, the charity says.

  20. Claudia Lawrence: Police and Crime Commissioner's plea for informationpublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    With today's news that the £1m review into the case of missing York woman Claudia Lawrence is to be "scaled-down" from February, the county's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has backed the force's investigation.

    Miss Lawrence disappeared on her way to work in York in March 2009 and officers believe the chef, who was 35 when she went missing, was murdered.  

    North Yorkshire PCC Julia Mulligan says: "This is, of course, an extremely difficult time for Claudia's family. I make another plea for those involved in Claudia’s disappearance to come forward and end this family's nightmare."

    "A great deal of time, money and effort has gone into investigating Claudia’s disappearance. It is enormously sad that Claudia has not been found despite the years of hard work and dedication," she adds.
