  1. Gomersal death: Woman charged with murderpublished at 07:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    A 47-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a 43-year-old man in Gomersal, West Yorkshire, last week.

    The man, who's been named as David Butterfield (pictured), was found at a house on Shirley Terrace on Friday evening.

    He died as a result of a stab wound to the chest, police have said.

  2. Repairs continue in Scarborough after storm surgepublished at 07:20 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Repairs are ongoing in Scarborough today following a storm surge along the east coast in the early hours of Friday morning.

    Council staff are still checking over sea defences, slipways and walls to see how much damage has been caused. 

    About 12 properties are thought to have been flooded at hide tide.

    Once the total cost has been estimated, it's likely the government will be asked for extra money to help pay for the work.

  5. Police probe 'suspicious' death of girl in Dinningtonpublished at 06:58 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Police are investigating the "suspicious" death of a teenage girl whose body was discovered in South Yorkshire on Monday.

    The girl, who has not been formally name, was found on a pathway near Lordens Hill, Dinnington, Rotherham, shortly before 11:00.

    Police are treating the death as suspicious because of "concerns about the state of the body and injuries".

    Supt Sarah Poolman said inquiries were under way and appealed for witnesses.

    On the rails, there are no major issues reported so far this morning at Yorkshire's main stations.  

    However, the 06:43 Leeds-Newcastle service is currently running about eight minutes late and is due at about 06:52.

    Things seem to be running pretty smoothly on Yorkshire's roads at the moment.

    However, there are a couple of problems being reported in West Yorkshire:   

    • Heavy traffic's currently reported on the A660 Leeds Road southbound in Pool at the A658 Pool Bank New Road junction
    • And the traffic is building up on the A6110 Ring Road Beeston southbound in Leeds at the A62 Gelderd Road junction
