    At the end of the month a new kind of home will be available to view in Sheffield. 

    It's made out of, would you believe it, a shipping container.

    The vast majority of it, about 85%, is made out of recycled materials and it's both low energy and reasonably cheap. 

    It'll cost about £65,000 for a two-bed unit and the prototype is being created at Heeley City Farm:

    Some of Halifax's most iconic buildings are undergoing a revamp at the moment.

    The 18th century Piece Hall is due to reopen this summer after redevelopment costing £19m.

    But before then, the neighbouring Square Chapel Centre for the Arts is expected to re-open this spring after its £6m revamp. 

    The chapel was built in 1772 but fell into a fairly serious state of disrepair before being turned into an arts venue.

    The 35-year-old (pictured below with her father Peter) has not been seen since March 2009 when she was thought to be making her way to work at the University of York.

    Since autumn 2013, the investigation has been led by Det Supt Dai Malyn.

    He says: "I acknowledge how sad Claudia's parents and sister feel that we have been unable to give them the answers they want.

    "We have worked tirelessly for three years and we are sorry that we have not been able to prove what happened to Claudia.

    "The investigation will always remain open until those responsible for her disappearance and murder are brought to justice," he added.

    It's all looking good on roads in North Yorkshire this lunchtime apart from the A19 at Barlby near Selby.

    There's heavy traffic there close to the A163 junction, the Market Weighton road, due to roadworks.

    If you're in a rush as you try to make your way to or from York and Selby, it may be advisable to find an alternative route.

    Another stand-off has developed today in Sheffield as contractors continue controversial tree-felling work.

    About 20 campaigners gathered near a tree earmarked for cutting down on Dunkeld Road near Banner Cross in the south west of the city.

    Police are searching for robbers who stole a large amount of money from a cash collection van outside a business in Doncaster.

    The two men, who may have been armed and wore dark clothing, intercepted the vehicle's driver as he returned from a collection at Warners fish merchants at Decoy Bank, Hyde Park.

    The driver was unharmed, but South Yorkshire Police want to hear from anyone who may have any information about the incident which took place at 16:40 on 2 December.

  8. Woman, 84, badly injured in three-wheeler motorway smashpublished at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    An 84-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries after the Reliant Robin she was travelling in collided with a van on the M62.

    The accident happened at lunchtime on Sunday westbound just after junction 34 at Eggborough. 

    The injured woman was travelling in the front seat of the car.

    Both the van and the car suffered major damage.    

    The woman was taken to Pinderfields Hospital before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary.

    It's claimed Leeds is becoming a name as a destination for food and drink and not just shopping.

    New BBC research shows the number of restaurants in the city centre has gone up by a quarter in the last five years - and there's been an 11% increase in pubs and bars. 

    Yorkshire has one of the he highest growths in leisure businesses.

    Nationally the largest growth areas included lounge bars (116%), cake makers (51%), juice bars (46%) and speciality restaurants. There was also a 31% increase in the number of coffee shops.

    But the losers are Comedy clubs (-33%), snooker halls (-34%), internet cafes (-41%) and bingo halls (-22%) which saw some of the biggest falls.

    This is the way the former Grosvenor House hotel in Sheffield city centre is being demolished.

    No explosives and plumes of debris; instead a giant "nibbler" machine is bringing the building down.

    The hotel used to be the place to stay for passing celebrities and sports stars 

    It's being demolished to make way for Sheffield's new retail quarter , externalwhich opens in 2019, and an HSBC complex will be built on the hotel's site.

    After more than a year out of action Elland Bridge, which was badly damaged during the 2015 Christmas floods in West Yorkshire, has re-opened today.

    Originally it was hoped the bridge would open before the end of 2016 but moving services from a temporary bridge to the new one had delayed work, said the council.  

    Floodwater washed out the foundations of the 1811 bridge and caused severe structural damage and a crack in the road surface on 29 December.

    The investigation into missing York woman Claudia Lawrence is "not closed" despite today's announcement by North Yorkshire Police that the inquiry into her disappearance is to be scaled down, according to the force's Assistant Chief Constable.

    Miss Lawrence, 35, disappeared while on her way to work at the University of York in March 2009.

    Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy says: "The case will not be closed until those responsible for Claudia's disappearance and, we believe, her murder, are brought to justice. 

    "Disappointing news though this is for Claudia’s family, we have not given up hope, and I do believe that one day we will be able to tell them what happened to Claudia," Mr Kennedy adds.

    Miss Lawrence was last seen on 18 March 2009 and was reported missing the following day after she failed to turn up for work at the University of York.  

    North Yorkshire Police's Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy says the force has pursued new lines of inquiry "with vigour and determination".

    "Despite their exhaustive efforts, the support of national experts, the application of the very latest forensic techniques to exhibits recovered many years ago, and despite the team tracing and speaking to many people who did not come forward in the first inquiry, we have sadly not been able to find that crucial piece of information," says Mr Kennedy.

    The investigation into missing York woman Claudia Lawrence is to be scaled back, North Yorkshire Police have said.

    Miss Lawrence, from Heworth, was 35 when she disappeared on her way to work at the University of York in March 2009.

    The North Yorkshire force says it's three-year review of the investigation into the disappearance and suspected murder of Miss Lawrence has now moved to what's termed a "reactive phase".

    They say this means they'll look at any new and compelling information as it comes to light.

    A cash machine has been stolen from a shop during a ram-raid in Brockholes, near Huddersfield, this morning.

    The robbers struck in the early hours of this morning at the Spar shop on New Mill Road.

    The burglary was carried out by thieves who were using a stolen vehicle, which was then set alight about three miles away in Berry Brow.
