    Bedfordshire Police says the air ambulance has landed outside the terminal of London Luton Airport, because a person became unwell. 

    There are reports of police directing traffic around where it landed.

    A cyclist has been seriously injured after being hit by a car at Whitwell in Hertfordshire. 

    The man in his 40s was airlifted to hospital after the accident in Codicote Road, shortly before 15:00 yesterday. 

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    A "serious fire" at a disused nightclub in Luton has now been extinguished.

    Firefighters were called to the derelict building in Upper George Street just after 10:30, where the first floor of the property was alight.

    The east of England Euro MP Richard Howitt was given a standing ovation as he gave his final speech to the Labour party conference in Liverpool.

    After more than 22 years in the European Parliament, he's leaving politics for the world of business.

    Speaking to delegates, Mr Howitt said it had been "an enormous privilege to serve the party".

    Police are hunting for thieves who stole a concrete steam train garden ornament - guarded by decorative meerkats - who possibly used a wheelbarrow as their getaway vehicle.

    They also damaged a gnome during the garden theft in Gravel Lane, Hemel Hempstead.

    The train, complete with plants, was taken sometime between Wednesday and Friday.

    If you've been offered a concrete train, or seen one being wheeled around, Hertfordshire Police is keen to hear from you.

    Friday night was showtime on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing as the first six celebrities - including Woburn Sands long jumper Greg Rutherford - took to the floor to perform their first routines.

    If you missed it, didn't he do well! Oops - sorry, wrong host...

    Head judge Len Goodman said for a bloke who "just spends his time larking about jumping in a sandpit", he was a "really good dancer".

    Bruno Tonioli said he could "go all the way", Darcey Bussell said he was "built to jive" and even Craig Revell Horwood said he "enjoyed it enormously", despite adding that he was "flat footed", "stompy" and "extremely pigeon-toed".

    Firefighters a tackling a "serious fire" on the first floor of a derelict building in Luton this lunchtime.

    Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property in Upper George Street just after 10:30.

  12. Watford train derailment: Driver issued emergency alertpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    We've just heard from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB), which has been trying to work out what happened in the crash where a train derailed near Watford Junction earlier this month.

    Two people were treated for injuries after the 06:19 service from Milton Keynes to Euston on 16 September left the tracks at about 07:00 after striking debris from a landslip (pictured). 

    The train was clipped by another travelling in the opposite direction, with both coming to rest inside the Hunton Bridge tunnel.

    The RAIB has just told us the driver of the derailed train managed to put out an emergency message to warn others.  

    The driver of the northbound train received that emergency alert and slowed down from 80mph (129 km/h) to 32mph (51 km/h) before the collision inside the tunnel.

    The RAIB, external also said work had been ongoing to strengthen the sides of the cutting prior to the incident, which had not yet reached the location of the landslip.

    A full investigation is going to consider why the landslip occurred, the response to the heavy rainfall and what happened between the derailment and the subsequent collision.

    A senior member of the Labour Party in the east of England says Jeremy Corbyn needs to take steps to restore relations within the party.

    Richard Howitt, the party's only Euro MP representing the eastern region, joined colleagues in calling for party unity following the leadership election results. But he says Mr Corbyn needs to play his part.

    Since Saturday, 30 Labour members have quit the party and joined the Liberal Democrats in the East of England, according to the Lib Dem's regional chairman.

    There was a strange sending off for Luton's Danny Hylton in the Hatters 3-1 win over Doncaster at Kenilworth Road. 

    Hylton was given a second yellow card in the 95th minute of the game for throwing a litter picker, that had been left by the goal line, towards the side of the pitch.

    Luton boss Nathan Jones said: "I'm disappointed with Danny because he showed a lack of discipline.

    "I won't say too much as I've told him in the dressing room. He's so far in credit that we'll give him that one, but we've lost him [to suspension] now."

    Transport for Buckinghamshire says the suspension bridge in Marlow will remain "closed for the foreseeable future" due to "potential structural damage".

    The Bucks Free Press, external says an overweight lorry crossed the bridge over the River Thames on Saturday causing the damage.

    Monarch is a stalwart of the British holiday scene just one year shy of its 50th anniversary of flying holidaymakers to the Mediterranean.

    Its future has been thrown into doubt by reports of aircraft being brought in from America to stand by to fly passengers home from resorts.

    Last night I understand it was in talks with the Civil Aviation Authority about its financial position.

    Monarch has denied its in difficulty and this morning issued a statement saying it expected to "announce a significant investment from its stakeholders in the coming days".
