  2. Travel: M5 to stay shut northbound 'for some time'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Police say the M5 northbound is likely to remain shut between J3 and J2 "for some time".

    Highways England duty operations manager Martin Stott said its staff were working hard to support the emergency services and thanked drivers for their patience.

    The condition of a motorcyclist who hit the crash barrier is not yet known.

    Delays northbound now stretch from J4 for Bromsgrove and southbound from M6 J8.

  3. Travel news: M5 closed northbound after 'serious collision'published at 18:03 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    The M5 remains closed northbound, with just one lane open southbound after a motorbike hit the crash barrier near J3.

    It's affecting the motorway between J2 (Dudley) and J3 (Quinton).

    There are long queues in both directions, although one lane southbound reopened at about 17:40.

    Highways England says diversions are in place for northbound motorists.

    A 21-year old woman and her 22-year-old partner have been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm after a severely malnourished young boy was taken into hospital, police say.

    West Midlands Police say the two were arrested after the woman's four-year-old son was taken to hospital on Sunday with multiple injuries including a broken arm and collar bone.

    Magistrates remanded the pair to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 11 August.

    Police say the boy is "in hospital where he is recovering well".

    Fans of Wolves are calling on the football club to tell them how takeover talks are progressing.

    It's being reported that a deal in the region of £40m is close for Chinese businessman Robin Li to buy the club.

    The club has so far declined to comment.

  9. Five teenagers questioned after stones thrown at Birmingham taxipublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Five teenagers have been arrested after a elderly woman was injured when the taxi she was travelling in had a stone thrown through the window, police say.

    The woman, who was in her 70s, was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured skull , externalafter she was travelling along Bellevue Road in Edgbaston on 25 May.

    The teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, were questioned on suspicion of wounding and have been released on police bail further inquiries.

    The Birmingham Pub Bombings are never far from the headlines, even after four decades, thanks to the families’ campaign for truth and justice. Today we’ve been hearing from Michelle Sealey who was only six months old when two bombs exploded in city centre pubs in 1974. 

    Twenty one people died, including her dad Paul Davies who was only 17. Michelle is now supporting campaigners who are calling for answers ahead of new inquests ordered by the coroner. 

    And if you’re a Harry Potter fan you’ll be hard pushed to top the Shrewsbury family who have spent thousands turning their home into Hogwarts.

    Nandos have said they are "currently helping West Midlands Police with their inquiries" after a teenager who is alleged to have had a loaded gun was arrested in their city centre restaurant, external in Birmingham.

    Seven teenagers, aged between 15 and 19, are being questioned by the police after a loaded gun with six bullets, knives and drugs were found following a brawl at about 23:30 on Wednesday.

    Police say they found a loaded gun with six bullets in the bag of a 17-year-old after they were called to a fight in a restaurant in Birmingham city centre.
