  1. Hate crime review after police see rise in reports after EU Referendumpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 26 July 2016

    The way police handle hate crime is to be reviewed after a sharp rise in incidents following the EU referendum. 

    The Home Secretary Amber Rudd will ask Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary to carry out the review. 

    There were more than 6,000 reports to the police since the middle of June - which is up by a fifth compared to the same time last year.

    In the West Midlands, the region's force said last month the average number of reports had remained at a similar level since April, despite national figures showing an increase.

    At the Rio Games, the 24-year-old will be hoping to improve on the Bronze she won at London 2012.

  3. M6 lorry fire: One lane re-opened on northbound carriagewaypublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 26 July 2016

    The outside lane of the M6 northbound has been re-opened passing the scene of the lorry fire near Great Barr, the Central Motorway Police Group says.

    Lanes one and two will need further work after the damage from the flames.

  4. Pedestrian hit by a car in Birmingham is anaesthetised at the scenepublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 26 July 2016

    A pedestrian hit by a car in Birmingham had to be anaesthetised at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

    The man suffered "multiple injuries" after the crash outside Kwik-fit in Washwood Heath Road, Ward End at about 19:00 on Monday, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

    The car driver was uninjured.

    A year since Birmingham City Council gave away thousands of bikes, bosses say despite concerns the scheme is a success.

    Of the 3,500 community bicycles handed out - organisers say only six have been misused, according to the authority.

    Initial reports suggested they had been stolen or offered for sale.

    There are long delays on the northbound carriageway of the M6 in the West Midlands because of the lorry fire near J7, for Great Barr.

    A diversion is in operation and there is also congestion on the southbound carriageway.

    The fire service said no-one was injured.

  9. Amazon parcels could be delivered by drones in new pilot projectpublished at 09:49 British Summer Time 26 July 2016

    Parcels ordered from retail giant Amazon could soon be delivered by drones. 

    They are testing the idea in partnership with the government. 

    The company - which has a depot in Rugeley - says it would eventually mean small parcels would arrive within 30 minutes of being ordered online.

    Highways England says the lorry fire is on the northbound carriageway and the southbound carriageway has now reopened.

    Current estimates are that traffic will return to normal by 11:15.
