  1. NHS walk in centre closures: What could the future look like?published at 11:25 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    Birmingham's clinical commissioning group says it is considering changing its urgent care services to "keep up with growing demand".

    Karen Richards, associate director of urgent care for Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group spoke to the city council's health and wellbeing scrutiny committee earlier this week, external with the proposals which include closing centres and extending hours.

    The clinical commissioning group says it over-spent by £11.68m last year "on solutions to try and ease" issues within its urgent and emergency care system.

  5. Two taken to hospital after Edgbaston crashpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    A woman and man have been taken to hospital after a crash in Edbgaston this morning.

    West Midlands Fire Service says crews from Smethwick and Ladywood had to cut free two people from the vehicle on City Road earlier this morning.

    The road remains blocked in both directions between Portland Road and Sandon Road.

    A third woman was involved in the crash but her injuries are not thought to be serious.

  6. Plan to close some NHS walk-in centres consideredpublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    There are fears NHS walk-in centres in Birmingham and Solihull could close, making it harder to access some services. 

    The Crosscity Clinical Commissioning Group, external is considering new plans for urgent care, including closing five of the eight centres. 

    This isn't the first time walk-in centres have been under threat as there was a similar review back in 2013, but it was decided to put off any changes.

    The NHS says urgent care options can be confusing for patients at a time when there's more demand than ever and the system needs to be reformed to offer a better service. 

    There are six scenarios on the table - one is to close five centres and move three into hospitals.
