  2. Stadium attack: Runner stabbed athletics official "in head and neck"published at 12:27 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    The attack on UK Athletics official Ralph Knibbs by former champion runner Lauren Jeska saw him stabbed "in the head and neck several times", according to West Midlands Police, external.

    The force said the blows resulted in "life-threatening injuries, from which he continues to make a steady recovery".

    Jeska, 42, also inflicted injuries on two other members of staff at UK Athletics' head office at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, in March.

    She has this morning admitted to the attempted murder of Mr Knibbs, 51, and causing actual bodily harm to his colleagues Kevan Taylor and Tim Begley. They were hurt when they intervened in the attack on Mr Knibbs, the organisation's head of human resources and welfare.

    Seven men have been arrested in Birmingham in connection with a break-in at a jewellers in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year.

    Some £400,000-worth of watches were taken from Beaverbooks at Intu Potteries in March.

    Police say the men, aged between 19 and 26, are being held on suspicion of burglary at a number of jewellers across the country.

  6. Men hurt as they intervened in stabbing by athletepublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    UK Athletics officials Kevan Taylor and Tim Begley sustained their injuries when they tried to help colleague Ralph Knibbs whom Lauren Jeska was trying to murder with a knife, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

    In addition to attempted murder and two counts of causing actual bodily harm, Jeska, 42, this morning also admitted to possession of two kitchen knives.

    She denied possessing a bread knife that had been left in a bag before the attack on 51-year-old Mr Knibbs.

    In addition to Ralph Knibbs - a top official at UK Athletics whom former fell running champion Lauren Jeska tried to murder - two others from the organisation were hurt in her attack at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, in March.

    Jeska, 42, this morning admitted causing actual bodily harm to finance director Kevan Taylor and accountant Tim Begley.

    Birmingham Crown Court heard their injuries were "not of the most serious order".

    Ralph Knibbs - the man champion athlete Lauren Jeska tried to murder at a major athletics stadium - was in court to hear her admit the attack.

    Mr Knibbs is a former Bristol RFC centre and head of human resources and welfare at UK Athletics.

    Jeska, 42, entered her pleas to Birmingham Crown Court via a video conferencing suite at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire.

    Lauren Jeska - the fell-running champion who this morning has admitted stabbing three UK Athletics staff - will find out her sentence on November 15.

    She appeared at Birmingham Crown Court via video link.

    The 42-year-old, from Powys, attacked three men at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium in March. 

    She admitted attempting to kill former Bristol rugby player Ralph Knibbs and causing actual bodily harm to Kevan Taylor and Tim Begley - who tried to intervene - and two counts of possessing a knife.

  11. Postal deliveries on 'paws' amid dog fearspublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Post has been suspended in part of West Bromwich for more than two weeks due to health and safety fears over a "roaming" dog.

    But its owner, who lives in Cardigan Close where the delivery ban is in place, says she has not been contacted by Royal Mail. 

    Ilona Welch insists her four-year-old animal is "harmless".

  18. Crews tackle major fire at derelict hotelpublished at 08:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Firefighters say they'll be at the scene of a large fire at a derelict hotel in Hockley Heath, external near Solihull for most of the day.

    They were called to the building in Aylesbury Road just after 21:00 yesterday.

    Efforts to tackle the fire have been hampered by a large tree preventing crews from using an aerial ladder. Parts of the roof and tiles have also fell from the building.
