Two police cars were sent to the home of a boy whose teachers thought a piece of brass he had taken to school could be a bullet.
Officers were contacted by St Edward's Catholic Primary School in Birmingham after a pupil alerted teachers to the seven-year-old's claims that the brass cylinder was "a bullet" for a rifle.
The school said it apologised to the boy's mother for any distress caused and the safeguarding and wellbeing of pupils was paramount. It added the boy's Islamic faith was not an issue, saying: "Historically there have been disclosures made of a similar nature, from children who were not from Muslim families and the same course of action has been taken."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Officers will always thoroughly investigate any reports of unlawful guns and ammunition that are reported in the community."
