    Warwickshire will play a County Championship match under floodlights using a pink ball for the first time. 

    It's part of a full round of nine floodlit championship fixtures starting on 26 June - ahead of Edgbaston hosting England's first ever day-night floodlit test.

    A plan for 51,000 new homes in Birmingham can go ahead after the government upheld ambitions set out in the city's Development Plan.

    The creation of 6,000 properties on green belt land in Sutton Coldfield is also permitted after a government order blocking the proposal was lifted.

    Severn Trent says it is trying to work out what caused a burst water pipe near Selly Oak yesterday.

    It's left a big hole in the road and 10 homes with "moderate" damage. 

    The company is hoping parts of Harborne Lane will at least be partially open by Friday afternoon.

  9. Dudley teenager jailed for car theft and threatening man with an imitation gunpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    A teenager from Dudley has been jailed for three years and nine months, external after threatening a man with an imitation gun and stealing his car. 

    He faces a further year in jail after driving his car at another motorist.   

    Shakeel Janjua, 19, pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a firearm at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 21 November.

    More than 100 mourners have turned out for the funeral of a World War Two veteran most of them never knew. 

    Widower Harry Arrowsmith, from Solihull, risked his life defending his country and survived - outliving most of his relatives and friends. 

    Outside the church

    It looked like the 91-year-old's send off might be a small and rather bleak affair. 

    Appeals on social media prompted a big turnout from other veterans and ordinary members of the public eager to pay tribute.

    Fifty-four weapons have been surrendered at a bin on Dunstall Road in Wolverhampton.

    Another eight weapons were binned at a site in Heath Town, Wolverhampton - among the eight items were three swords.

    The site on Dunstall Road had the highest number of dumped weapons across the eight bins on offer.

    The repairs to the sink hole in Selly Oak will take "weeks" not "days", according to Severn Trent.

    A water main burst on Harborne Lane yesterday afternoon, sending thousands of gallons of water across the road's surface.

    The mother and stepfather of a two-and-a-half year old boy who are accused of beating him to death at a house in Wednesfield have been remanded into custody.

    Emergency services were called to a house in High Street on 20 November. The boy had injuries to his head and body and died in hospital. 

    The boy's mother, 25, and his 27-year-old stepfather are charged with murder. They are due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.
