    Drivers need to keep avoiding the area in Selly Oak where a water main has burst, West Midlands Police say.

    As it is close to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, access needs to be maintained for ambulances.

    A man with diabetes is missing from his home in Sedgley.

    William Jewkes, 75, has not been seen since around 11:00 on Tuesday 22 November.

    West Midlands Police say he left home on foot and has not taken any money, diabetes medication or a coat with him. 

    "This is totally out of character and his family are extremely worried," a spokesperson said.

    It's Philip Hammond's first Autumn Statement since his move from foreign secretary to chancellor of the exchequer.  

    I've been looking at what his announcements mean to us living and working in the Midlands.

    A recent survey by Midlands Connect, a collaboration of 28 councils and 10 local enterprise partnerships across the East and West Midlands, suggests a quarter of local businesses would consider relocating elsewhere in the country if there's no improvement in connectivity.

    He promised more details of road improvements would be announced in the Midlands by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling within the next few days.

    But the most ambitious individual transport initiative is a £5m Rail Hub which will, among others things, enable 10 more train services every hour through Birmingham's New Street station, the cross roads of the rail network.

    A burst water main has brought flooding chaos to Selly Oak this afternoon. 

    Water is flooding Harborne Lane. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

    This afternoon we’ve discovered that one of our really big water pipes has burst at Harborne Lane near Selly Oak. We've now turned off the pipe and so there should be no impact on customer supplies. However it has flooded the road, although the water is now draining away.

    Residents on a Birmingham estate are being asked to show other local communities how they can rescue council services threatened by budget cuts. 

    The Castle Vale Tenants Association stepped in to save their library from closure in 2014. 

    The local authority was so impressed, 18 months ago it asked the residents to take over the running of the estate's swimming pool as well.
