  2. Fraudsters caught sub-letting council homespublished at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    People have been caught fraudulently sub-letting council houses, Sandwell Council says. , external

    Officers in the authority's CCTV control room and its counter-fraud team identified four properties that were being used in the practice.

    The council says the crackdown saved it roughly £93,000 per property. 

    In three instances, CCTV footage showed properties being used by people other than the tenant and in the fourth, images showed a tenant living at a different property resulting in benefit fraud over payments.

    Birmingham Children's Hospital is admitting around 80 children a year following road collisions, according to new figures. 

    Hospital staff are hoping to bring down the number by carrying out a road safety campaign in schools.

    A record number of people used Birmingham's New Street railway station last weekend, Network Rail says., external

    The operator said 230,000 people used the station on Saturday, eclipsing the 221,000 the day before, and followed the opening of the city's annual Christmas Market.

    Network Rail thinks the record could be broken as early as this weekend due to Aston Villa's home tie, an influx of Christmas shoppers and more Christmas Market visitors.

    The family of a Birmingham man who died after getting caught up in a pub brawl eight years ago say they're still desperate for answers. 

    David Weaver was in a coma for five months before he died. No one has been arrested. 

    The investigation has now been re-opened by cold case officers from West Midlands Police.

    Police patrolling the M6, M5 and M42 motorways caught 233 people using mobile phones behind the wheel in the first two weeks of a three-week crackdown.
