People vulnerable to sleeping rough after leaving hospital or prison will be helped by a new scheme funded by £400,000 the government has given Birmingham and Solihull councils, external.
The councils say the Rough Sleeping Grant will be used to support people by offering them a safe place to sleep, physical and mental health checks and substance misuse screening.
Two new posts will be funded to support those vulnerable to rough sleeping after being discharged from Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals and HMP Birmingham. Funding will also be given to a new assessment and triage night shelter.
This support will be in addition to the £1.7m the government granted Birmingham City Council a week ago for its Homelessness Prevention Trailblazer scheme.

A balaclava-wearing robber with a bread knife held up a supermarket in south Staffordshire, making off with around £700 on a motorbike.
Police are appealing for information about the raid at the Co-op food store in Market Place in Brewood at around 05:55 GMT this morning.
Staff were shocked but unhurt, officers said as they appealed for information. The robber left the store via the rear door before mounting his motorbike to leave the scene.
The raider is described as a man, wearing black clothing, a grey saggy beanie hat, a high visibility jacket and he had thick woolly socks over his footwear.
Warwickshire's Ian Bell scored 22 off 19 balls in the Australian Big Bash T20 competition as his team down under, Perth Scorchers won by four wickets, external.
Bears stalwart Bell is the third top runscorer in the competition so far.

A dementia sufferer who was found wandering in Birmingham city centre without her bag was reunited with her family within 35 minutes of police issuing a social media appeal.
The woman initially told officers she was called Valerie and was found near to the Square Peg pub on Corporation Street on Wednesday lunchtime.
The West Midlands force posted on Facebook, external the woman was identified within 35 minutes of the appeal being launched.
There is slow traffic on the Wednesfield Road westbound in Wolverhampton at the junction with Ring Road St Davids, drivers are warned.

Two men have appeared before magistrates today accused of murdering a man in West Bromwich on Tuesday.
The court heard 33-year-old Carl Campbell was shot while sat in a stationary car on the High Street at about 14:30 GMT.
Mohammed Humza, aged 19, and 24-year-old Vikesh Chauhan both from the West Bromwich area have been remanded in custody and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.
