Paul Adey, aged 36, 45-year-old Mark Fannon and 50-year-old Paul Greenfield were charged last year over evidence they gave at the May 2015 inquest into the death of 29-year-old father-of-three Kingsley Burrell.

Mr Burrell died after suffering a cardiac arrest in hospital in 2011 following his detention hours earlier by police under the Mental Health Act.

The warning about stocks of 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) sparked a flurry of calls to the Army, which carried out hundreds of explosions nationwide.

The Department for Education (DfE) said it worked with the Army to support schools with "necessary disposals".

The controlled explosions were carried out between 21 October and 21 December 2016 after schools were advised to check the chemical by the government advisory science service CLEAPSS (Consortium of Local Education Authorities for the Provision of Science Services).

They included Wolverhampton Girls School, Handsworth Grammar School, St Francis School in Aldridge and Broadway School in Perry Barr.
