    The search for a company to design, build and maintain high speed trains for the proposed HS2 rail network has been launched.

    Up to 60 trains will be needed and the contract to build them is worth more than £2.5 billion.

    Construction work on phase one from London to Birmingham is due to start in the Spring. 

    The Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling says the project should be given royal assent, external in the next month:

    Aston Villa will announce the signing of Henri Lansbury (pictured) later this morning. The fee for Nottingham Forest's captain will be around £2.75m. 

    Lansbury will train with Villa this morning and may be in the squad for tomorrow's home game versus Preston.

    Villa are also in for the midfielder Conor Hourihane but have got no further than an approach to Barnsley. 

    They'll bid £1m for the Republic of Ireland international who's out of contract in the summer.

    Conductors on London Midland are voting on whether to take industrial action in a row over the company's decision to put external security contractors on trains "by imposition and without agreement", the RMT says.

    The rail union said the ballot of 523 conductor members opened yesterday and concludes on 2 February.

    In a statement the union said the company had "failed to respond to our questions, proposals and suggestions that would have averted the need for a potential breakdown in industrial relations".

    A man has been charged with murdering his wife, external, after she was found with fatal stab wounds at a flat in Walsall.

    A post mortem examination revealed Kulwinder died as a result of a stab wound to the neck at her flat on Gomer Street, Willenhall, on Wednesday.

    Azad Singh, 46, is due to appear before Walsall Magistrates Court today.

    A police spokesman said the man, who was arrested in a car outside the property, is being held in custody, and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
