    Birmingham boxer Kal Yafai's first world title defence opponent has been revealed.

    He'll defend the WBA super-flyweight belt against Japan's Suguru Muranaka and it will take place in his home city at the Barclaycard Arena in May. 

    Stourbridge's Sam Eggington is also on the card as he aims to follow up his recent win over former world champion Paulie Mallinaggi by beating Spain's Cerferino Rodriguez for the European Welterweight title.

    A man believed to be from the Northfield area has been arrested on suspicion of holding a bank worker at gun point.

    Police are questioning the 60-year-old , external to find out his motive after "no threats or demands for money were made".

    A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of holding a member of staff at a bank at gun point.

    West Midlands Police say, external the man made no threats or demands for money.

    The man surrendered himself to police at 12:50 after armed police surrounded the building and negotiators were sent to Nat West bank on Bristol Road South.

    A number of roads in Northfield are closed while police are at a bank reported to have an armed man inside.

    One shop keeper says he's been ordered by police to put his shutters down on the store and stay inside.  

    Bristol Road South is shut with no access to pedestrians or vehicles.

  11. Police officers and staff 'have case to answer' over Jacqueline Oakes death published at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2017

    Nineteen officers and staff at West Midlands Police "have a case to answer for misconduct" over events that led to a woman's murder in Birmingham.

    Marcus Musgrove was jailed in July 2014 for killing 51-year-old Jacqueline Oakes.

    In 2015 a review was launched over her death , including contact she had with various agencies at the time. 

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) says its complex investigation is one of the biggest it's dealt with.

    Improving public transport in the West Midlands is the top priority for former John Lewis managing director Andy Street as he ramps up his fight to become the region's new mayor. 

    The new mayor will be responsible for housing, transport and job creation, but Andy Street says his focus will also be on getting us from A to B more quickly.

    Police are looking to speak to him following three bank robberies in the last month.

    In each incident it's thought the same robber handed a bank worker a note saying he was armed with a gun.  , external

    He threatened to harm staff at branches in Oldbury and Birmingham if they did not hand over money. He eventually fled with substantial amounts of cash.

    He was serving part of his sentence at the Derbyshire open prison, but left on Wednesday night.

    An appeal to identify Irish construction workers from a photograph at one of England's best-known motorway junctions has ended in success.

    The Birmingham Irish Association has identified all 24 men who worked on Spaghetti Junction in 1972 after a world wide appeal.

    The photos are now being displayed in an exhibition - We Built This City - at the Birmingham Art Gallery and Musuem.
