    Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham Ray Hassall has died at the age of 74.

    Councillor Hassall, a former Lord Mayor of the city, helped launch the International Dance Festival and the Birmingham Half Marathon.

    Changes to the Brexit bill , debated in both Houses of Parliament later, could derail the whole process, says Labour MP Gisela Stuart.

    Ms Stuart, who represents Edgbaston, was chair of Vote Leave and told BBC WM she feared one of the amendments would allow Parliament to overturn the outcome of the referendum. 

    Ministers believe MPs will reject the two changes made to the Brexit Bill in the House of Lords - one guaranteeing the rights of EU nationals living in Britain and another calling for parliament to have a "meaningful" vote on the final deal.

  4. Man found with serious stab injuriespublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    A man has been found with serious stab injuries in Netherton near Dudley.

    The 28 year old "suffered a number of stab wounds" and is in a "serious condition" in hospital according to police.

    Officers were called to Halesowen Road just before midnight yesterday following reports of disorder near to a health centre.  

    Investigations are ongoing at the scene, police say, with officers carrying out forensic examinations and CCTV enquiries.

  6. Death of The Italian Job actor John Forgeham 'shock to all'published at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    The death of Footballers' Wives star John Forgeham has been described as a "shock to all of us" by his friend, producer Simon Golding.

    The 75-year-old, best known for his roles in the ITV drama and The Italian Job, died on Friday.

    He was born in Kidderminster.

    About 85,000 people took part in Birmingham's St Patrick's Day celebrations, organisers say.

    Peter Connolly, of the festival's organising committee, said the annual event was attracting "growing" numbers and was among the largest in the world.

    The event, in its 21st year, included two new stages for live music, he said.

    The festival around Digbeth's "Irish Quarter" has attracted new sponsors after losing about £20,000 in 2015 as part of city council funding cuts.

    The family of a teenager who died after his bike was hit by a car has said they were "truly blessed to have him in our lives".

    Sean Purchase, 15, was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in Great Barr, Birmingham, on 2 February.

    He died five weeks later on 6 March. No-one has been arrested but the driver is helping police with their inquiries, West Midlands Police said.

    The boy's family said he "was the strongest person anyone could meet".
