  1. Inadequate children's social care services in Dudley improving, says Ofsted published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    Government inspectors say Dudley Council is making "positive progress" in children's social care, after being rated inadequate last year .

    In a letter to the authority, the watchdog Ofsted says staff morale is good with reduced case loads allowing social workers more time to see children. 

    But they also say there is "much more to do" to ensure all children receive effective services.

  3. Neighbour said Westminster terrorist lived in Birmingham for months published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    After Westminster terrorist Khalid Masood's rampage on Wednesday, police searched a home in Winson Green, Birmingham.

    Neighbours said Masood lived there for about seven months until December last year.

    Iwona Romek was in disbelief when she realised her neighbour and the attacker were one and the same. 

    She told the Press Association: "Now I'm scared that someone like that was living close to me." 

    Ms Romek said she had seen him with a child aged between five and six and a partner, but that they had moved away about two to three months ago.

  7. Information sought over Westminster terrorist who had been living in Birmingham recently published at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    Police have appealed to anyone who knew the Westminster attacker Khalid Masood to come forward with information.

    The Kent schoolboy had been most recently living in the West Midlands, according to the Metropolitan Police.

    The Electoral Roll recorded Quayside, Winson Green, Birmingham, as Masood's most recent address and neighbours believed they recognised him.

    Officers investigating Wednesday's attack said they wanted to hear about "associates and places he visited".

    He used a "number" of aliases, police said, and they revealed earlier on Friday he was born Adrian Russell Ajao.

    Another man was arrested in the city overnight and officers are searching a property in Hockley near a former home of Khalid Masood - the man identified as the attacker.

  11. Hundreds of drivers fined for not wearing seatbelts in a week published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    More than 230 drivers were fined for not wearing their seatbelt during a week-long police crackdown across the West Midlands. 

    Officers handed out £100 penalties to 236 motorists.

    The force says excuses included a driver claiming they did not believe a seatbelt was required while travelling at 25mph or less, according to police, external .

    A man from the Walsall area has  told BBC Radio Stoke he's missed a best friend's funeral due to delays caused by this morning's closure of the M6 in Staffordshire.

    Highways England  said the motorway was closed between junctions 14 and 15, external  due to emergency repairs on an "unsafe" bridge at the A51, north of Stafford services.  

    Micheal McDonagh, from Aldridge, says he set off at 07:40 but was still in Staffordshire at 11:30 with the funeral in Manchester already underway.

    Norwich City chairman Ed Balls has confirmed that caretaker manager Alan Irvine will be in charge when the Canaries play Aston Villa next weekend. 

    Irvine has been looking after the team since Alex Neil was sacked a fortnight ago

    The club wants to appoint a new sporting director before choosing a head coach.  

    It's believed that Huddersfield Town's Stuart Webber is in line to take the sporting director post.

    Solihull Moors are aiming to secure their place in the top level of non-league football for another season. 

    They can move a step closer this weekend when they host Barrow after an injury-time defeat to league leaders Forest Green in midweek.

    Moors' boss Liam McDonald told us he expects them to bounce back and we'll be reporting from the game on DAB radio.

    We'll also have reports from Stourbridge, who hope to solidify their place in the play-offs in the Northern Premier League at home to Grantham, as well as Chasetown, who host Romulus in First Division South.
