A neighbour of a woman killed in a stabbing at her Stourbridge home that also left her husband in a critical condition says he "heard some commotion" on the street but put it down to schoolchildren.

The couple have been named locally as Tracey and Peter Wilkinson and Colin Giles told me: "It's devastating. I've met them. He was a lovely fella and so was his wife. A lovely couple."

He is in a critical condition in hospital following this morning's attack.

A man in his 20s has been arrested and is suspected of murder and wounding.

Two police officers were treated in hospital following the crash between a police vehicle and a Land Rover Discovery that was stolen from the house in which a family was stabbed this morning.

Emergency services were alerted to the stabbing - in which a mother and her 13-year-old son died - shortly after 08:00, with the crash happening near the Stourbridge property about 30 minutes later.

West Midlands Police said two officers were taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley with minor injuries.

They have been released.

A bunch of flowers has been laid outside the home where a stabbing left a teenage boy dead along with his mother - named locally as Tracey Wilkinson.

A message reads "RIP Tracey". 

A man, named locally as her husband Peter Wilkinson, is in a critical condition in hospital with serious stab wounds.

Mr Wilkinson who is being treated in hospital with stab wounds to his chest and back is believed to be a company director, though the company did not want to make any comment.

A woman who died at her Stourbridge home after she was stabbed along with her husband and teenage son has been named locally as Tracey Wilkinson. 

Her husband, named as Peter Wilkinson, is in a stable but critical condition in hospital with stab wounds to his chest and back.

Their 13-year-old son was pronounced dead at Birmingham Children's hospital.

The emergency services say that when they arrived at this home in which three members of the same family were stabbed they were met with scenes that were simply horrific.

Among those scenes was a man with serious injuries in the garden of the property in Greyhound Lane, Stourbridge. He's in a stable but critical condition in hospital - his wife and 13-year-old son were killed.

A Land Rover Discovery taken from the property collided with a police vehicle just a short distance away. A man in his 20s has been arrested. 

I understand the family has an older daughter in university who is being supported by officers.

A man in his 20s arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with this morning's stabbing of a family is said to be "known to the police".

Supt Lee Kendrick said at a press briefing: "At this moment in time it's too early to look at or release the details to any previous dealings he's had with West Midlands Police but he is known to us."

Police have described the scene of a triple stabbing in which a woman and her son died as "horrific and heartbreaking".

They were found seriously hurt at their home in Greyhound Lane, Stourbridge. The woman - whose husband is being treated in hospital for stab injuries - died at the property.

A man in police custody and due to be questioned on suspicion of murder and wounding may have been known to the victims, police say.

Supt Lee Kendrick said: "At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”  

Police say they understand a man arrested in connection with the stabbing of three people at their home was known to the victims.
