    A 58-year-old man, arrested last week, at an address in Birmingham, in connection with last Wednesday's terrorist attack in Westminster, has now been released with no further action, police say.

  4. Woman dies after car hits treepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    A woman has died after the car she was in hit a tree.

    The ambulance service was called to Hill Lane in Wythall, Birmingham, at 09:20. 

    A passer-by saw the crash and gave the woman CPR until the emergency services arrived. 

    An ambulance spokesman said the woman had been confirmed dead at the scene.

    It's after two teenagers from Birmingham drowned off the coast of Barmouth, in Gwynedd, Wales, last August.

  8. Police name pedestrian killed by car being chased by policepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    Police have named a pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by a car being pursued by police in Birmingham. 

    Dil Bahadur Subedi, 45, was struck by a green Mondeo at around 23:40 on Belgrave Middleway as it travelled along the outbound carriageway of the road. 

    The car had been pursued from Short Heath Road in Erdington after the driver failed to stop.

    Dil Bahadur Subedi's family have paid tribute to him, saying he was a "well respected son, husband, father and work colleague". 

    West Midlands Police say they have located a burnt-out green Mondeo in Northfield which they believe to be the vehicle involved in the collision.  

  9. Westminster attack: Khalid Masood was armed with 'two large knives' published at 16:18 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    Detectives have confirmed Khalid Masood was armed with two knives when he fatally stabbed a police officer at the Houses of Parliament last week

    Inquests into the deaths of PC Keith Palmer, American tourist Kurt Cochran, 54, retired window cleaner Leslie Rhodes, 75, and Aysha Frade, 44, were opened and adjourned by senior coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox at Westminster Coroner's Court.

    Masood, 52, from Birmingham was shot dead by police.

    Det Supt John Crossley told the inquest: "The man (Khalid Masood) left the car armed with two large knives and ran into the vehicle entrance gateway known as Carriage Gates, at the north perimeter fence of the Palace of Westminster. 

    "The man attacked a police officer in the grounds of the Palace of Westminster with the knives, causing grave wounds and killing the officer, PC Keith Palmer."

    We have been offal deep searching for the answer on this one...

    Faggots were developed as a way of using up all the bits of pig that would otherwise be discarded and have been  on sale in the Black Country for more than a century .  

    • Faggots are made with minced offal from pigs, such as hearts, formed into balls
    • They are traditionally served with mashed potato, peas and gravy
    • Groaty Dick - or Grorty Dick - is a speciality from the Black Country, sometimes called Groaty Pudding
    • It is a type of stew made with beef and thickened with the addition of grains (the groats)

    Faggots can be eaten hot or cold and when served hot are traditionally accompanied by peas. There's even a  BBC Good Food recipe, external  you can try.

    This is Eve Billingham, she founded The Cook Shop in Old Hill, near Halesowen in 1889.

    She originally used the front room of her home in Old Hill High Street (now Highgate Street) as a shop selling Black Country food she cooked herself.  

    Her recipe for Black Country favourites including faggots have been handed down for generations u p until recently, the shop was still being run by her great-grandson.

    A woman has died after a fire at a flat on New Pool Road in Cradley Heath. 

    The ambulance service was called to the road at about 09:30. 

    A spokeswoman said the woman was confirmed dead at the scene.

    The West Midlands has topped the list for the average number of new animal cruelty complaints investigated by RSPCA officers each day.

    The RSPCA says it investigates  19 new claims each day. 

    A man from Birmingham kept this golden eagle in awful conditions at his home in Wales. 

    The number of complaints has risen by 3.8% in the West Midlands compared to last year. 

    The West Midlands also came in the top four for the number of convictions relating to animal cruelty with 49 in 2016.

    A surgeon accused of carrying out unnecessary operations has denied telling a patient she had cancer in her breast that was a "ticking time bomb".

    Prosecutors allege Ian Paterson, 59, wrongly carried out a mastectomy on Patricia Welch, then 48, but the surgeon said she had biopsies that uncovered "four risk factors" of cancer. 

    Mr Paterson, from Altrincham, Greater Manchester, who denies the charges, told jurors that after the successful mastectomy in May 2001, tests on the removed tissue had revealed Mrs Welch had one "unstable breast", while the other seemed unaffected.

    Armed police officers were called to a shopping centre after a report a man was seen carrying an axe. 

    West Midlands Police says officers searched the Grosvenor shopping centre in Northfield, Birmingham, but found "no trace of the man".

    Police added they had only received one call, but said "in the current climate it’s not acceptable for people to be walking around in busy public places carrying an axe".
