    A swan has been put down by the RSPCA after they say it was found, external "peppered with air gun pellets". 

    They say the bird was discovered by water on Cannock Road, Burntwood on 30 March and taken to their centre in Nantwich.

    An X-ray revealed the swan had been shot 10 times with pellets found in his wings, chest, legs, tail and beak. 

    As a result, the RSPCA says he had to be put to sleep due to being so badly injured.

  9. Baggies fans to show support for Stourbridge stabbing victimspublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    West Brom fans are set to show their support for the Stourbridge family who were stabbed in their home last month.

    They'll be holding a minute's applause before Sunday's home match in memory of Baggies fan Pierce Wilkinson, 13, who was killed along with his mother, Tracey Wilkinson.

    Pierce's father Peter Wilkinson, who was also attacked, is hoping to attend the game against Liverpool with his daughter Lydia who was not at home when the stabbings happened. 

    A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

    A bride and groom from Shropshire are "devastated" police say, after a thief stole camera equipment on their wedding day in Staffordshire., external

    Staffordshire Police say the couple, AnnaMaria and Richard Jones, from Bridgnorth, and their party were dining at Pendrell Hall, Codsall Wood on Monday when it happened.

    They say while they were eating, a thief came in and took three bags containing £8,000 of equipment from a ground floor room. 

    Officers say it meant their photographer couldn't continue taking pictures while, among the items, were memory cards with photos on that no-one else had copies of.

    According to Derbyshire Police, he was last seen leaving his home in Thurvaston Lane, near Ashbourne, at the end of March.

    Police said he sometimes visits gaming conventions and was thought to have headed to Birmingham, but has not been heard from since he left.

    Jaguar Land Rover has scooped two prizes at the world car awards in New York.

    The car giant, which has factories in Coventry, Solihull and Wolverhampton, picked up 'world car design of the year' and 'world car of the year' for the Jaguar F-PACE. 

    The performance SUV is the fastest-selling model the firm has produced.

    Eight bags of bark chippings and seven rolls of weed control have been found in cars suspected of being part of a theft from a DIY store, external

    Staffordshire Police say they were called last night after a member of the public reported seeing people filling two car boots with items from Wickes in Cannock after it had shut.

    Officers say the two vehicles, a silver Renault Clio and a silver Vauxhall Zafira, initially failed to stop for them so they were pursued. 

    After a short distance they say the vehicles stopped, with the Clio having hit a hedge on Churchbridge Island and the Zafira stopping in Walsall. 

    Three people, two men and a woman, all from Walsall, have been arrested on charges including suspicion of theft, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

    A man who spent 17 years in jail after being wrongly convicted of attempted rape is taking his claim for compensation to the Supreme Court.

    Victor Nealon, who was convicted in 1997 of the attempted rape of a woman in Redditch won hisappeal in December 2013.

    He spent 10 years more than the seven-year minimum term after he persisted in asserting he was innocent.

    Scales of justice

    He was freed after appeal judges ruled that fresh evidence made his convictions unsafe, but had his applications for compensation rejected by the Ministry of Justice.

    The Appeal Court also turned down his application last year - the Supreme Court today announced that a panel of three justices had granted Mr Nealon permission to appeal.

    A PE teacher is running the London Marathon for a second time next week to raise funds for the air ambulance service that rescued her following a motorway crash.

    Lucy Dawkins raised more than £10,000 when she completed her first London Marathon in 2015.

    Lucy Dawkins, 27, from Hagley, sustained serious head injuries when her car aquaplaned on surface water and collided with a barrier on the M42 in 2013.     

    Her injuries meant she had to be airlifted to hospital by Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, where she was treated for a fractured skull and laceration to the back of the head. 

    Lucy reovered, with the loss of her sense of smell the only lasting damage.

    A horse that was "severely trapped" in a large hole in Wombourne , externalfor about six hours has now been released, the fire service says.

    A JCB digger had to be used by fire crews to cut away some of the embankment after the animal, called Magic, got stuck under a plastic pipe at the site on Plantation Lane, Himley.

    A vet was called who sedated the horse during the four-hour rescue and then treated it after it was out of the hole, giving it a check over.

    The fire service says it then worked with a local farmer to fill the hole in, adding that Magic was walking around when they left.
