    A man who stabbed his accountant wife to death a day after he discovered she was having an affair with a joiner has been jailed for a minimum of 17 years. 

    Stuart Gallear, who is originally from Wolverhampton, claimed he did not intend to kill his 42-year-old wife Mandy in the kitchen of their home in Wigan and said he had momentarily lost his self-control.

    Last week a jury at Manchester Crown Court rejected the 51-year-old's account and unanimously found him guilty of murder on 6 October 2016.

    A man's body has been found in a Birmingham canal near Winson Green.

    The waterway was closed off near Spring Hill bridge after the discovery was made at around 07:30 on Wednesday.

    Police say they are investigating the identity of the deceased man.

    A former Walsall man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for trying to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife in California.

    William John Wallace, 36, now of Santa Ana, tried to have his ex-wife killed during the course of their child support and custody family court hearings in 2013, the Orange County District Attorney (DA) said.

    When the allegation was reported to police, an undercover officer posed as a hitman and Wallace offered him $30,000 and showed him a photograph of his intended victim, according to the DA's office.

    He pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempted murder and two felony counts of solicitation to commit murder, the office said.

    A group of five or six black and white men who chased the 22-year-old victim out of the Old Crown pub, in Carters Lane, are suspected of carrying out the attack on 25 March at about 01:15.

    West Midlands Police officers have now released details of the attack and shared this CCTV footage on YouTube as part of an appeal for information, external.

    The Unite union says it will present proposals to save as many jobs as possible at a Black Country chicken processing factory, when it meets plant managers again next week.

    The 2 Sisters Food Group is consulting on plans to close its plant at Bevan Way, in Smethwick. 

    It says the site, which employs 630 people at Alpha Business Park, is "ageing". 

    The union has described talks with management earlier this week as "positive and constructive".

    There's been a rapid increase in the number of violent crimes against men in the West Midlands accused of bringing dishonour on their families.

    Cases have more than tripled from three in 2013 to 13 last year. 

    I spoke to Sikh man Manjinder Singh Sidhu, aged 30, from Birmingham, who faced threats and abuse from his family members when he came out as gay and is now hoping to help others in his situation.

    He said: "Certain cousins would write no gay boys allowed to the party or the birthday. I confronted one of them and I was told they were going to beat me."

    There are fears more similar honour crimes are not being reported. The figures "could be much higher", according to Det Insp Wendy Bird.

    Dozens of Gnomes at a Warwickshire tourist attraction have been destroyed for the second time in a year.
