    Some clear spells overnight, allowing temperatures to fall, leading to a chilly night for many, especially out in the countryside, with a grass frost possible by dawn.

    There has been a significant increase in the number of violent crimes against men in the West Midlands, accused of bringing dishonour on their families. We speak to a man who faced threats and abuse from relatives, when he told them he was gay.  

    Police are appealing for witnesses to a machete attack on a 22-year-old man in Halesowen, which left him with serious injuries. 

    And Wolverhampton cyclist Andy Tennant, has helped the British team pursuit quartet into the bronze medal race at the World Championships in Hong Kong.

  7. Major Birmingham road closure caused by suspected thieves trying to evade policepublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 12 April 2017

    The closure of a major Birmingham road was caused by suspected thieves trying to drive away from police and colliding with eight vehicles, according to officers.

    The West Midlands force said its officers tried to stop a Mini suspected to be stolen and using false plates on Bristol Street, but the driver tried to make off from police and collided with eight vehicles.

    The Mini came to a halt after hitting several stationery vehicles at low speed and the three people inside were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, police said.

    Three people have received minor injuries.

    Two women believed to be the last people to see a murder victim alive are being sought by detectives investigating a tram stop stabbing in Birmingham.

    Father-of-four Anthony Banting died from multiple stab wounds shortly after getting off a tram at 16:40 BST on 31 March at Soho Benson Road in the Winson Green area.

    A man has since been charged in connection with his murder and remains in custody.

    Now, officers are making an urgent plea to trace two women, who got off the next service at the same stop within seconds of Mr Banting leaving the tram, arriving from West Bromwich with shopping bags, and have issued their images as part of an appeal for information, external

  10. Teenagers suffer head injuries as motorbike collides with car near Birmingham Central Mosquepublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 12 April 2017

    The closure of Belgrave Middleway in both directions earlier was not connected to the closure of nearby Bristol Street, the ambulance service says.

    Two teenagers, aged15 and 16, suffered head injuries on Belgrave Middleway at around 13:00 BST after the motorcycle they were riding was in collision with a car.

    Neither boy was wearing a helmet, the service says, external.

    The 15-year-old was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital whilst the older teenager went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    The car driver was uninjured in the collision.

  11. Unemployment decline in the West Midlandspublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 12 April 2017

    The number of unemployed people across the West Midlands is down by 2,000. 

    Between December and February 159,000 were out of work. 

    Nationally, the unemployment rate has remained at 4.7% as inflation starts to wipe out wage growth, official figures show.

    The number of people unemployed fell by 45,000 to 1.56 million in the three months to February, said the Office for National Statistics.

    West Midlands Police has released CCTV footage of the assault outside Pure Gym, shortly before 18:00 on 6 February. The force is appealing for witnesses.

    The attack saw the victim chased out of the Bullring shopping centre by up to 15 youths then attacked by two of them and beaten with what police suspect to be a hammer in Corporation Street.

    Five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of holding up shop staff in Dudley with meat cleavers and a firearm.

    Masked men escaped with cash, alcohol and cigarettes from the Co-Op, in Overfield Road, Russells Hall, at about 22:00 last night. 

    Police are questioning, external three 17-year-olds - from Wednesbury, Kingswinford and Dudley - along with a 16-year-old from Quarry Bank and an 18-year-old man from Brierley Hill - on suspicion of robbery.

    The jury has been discharged in the trial of a firearms dealer accused of making and supplying homemade bullets used in fatal shootings by criminal gangs in the 2011 riots.

    Paul Edmunds, of Hardwicke, Gloucestershire, has denied conspiracy to supply firearms and ammunition.

    Prosecutors said he used his "almost encyclopaedic" knowledge of firearms laws to smuggle hundreds of guns.

    Jurors were discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

    A retrial has been ordered at Birmingham Crown Court for the autumn.

    The number of unemployed people across the West Midlands is down by 2,000, according to figures released today. 

    Between December and February 159,000 were out of work. 

    Nationally, the number of jobless fell by 45,000 to just over one-and-a-half million.

    The jury at the trial of firearms dealer Paul Edmunds, from Hardwicke in Gloucestershire, has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

    Mr Edmunds, 65, denied conspiracy to supply firearms and ammunition.  

    There will be a re-trial in the Autumn but no date has been set yet.
