    The Royal Shakespeare Company's multi-award winning show Matilda the Musical is to go on tour in the UK next spring.

    The show started off in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010 before transferring to the West End where it's now in its sixth year at Cambridge Theatre. 

    The theatre company has announced  that the production, based on the Roald Dahl book, will tour Birmingham, Leicester and Milton Keynes.   

  2. Legal highs 'have stronger chemicals than Class A drugs'published at 12:12 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    There are concerns that psychoactive substances - formally known as legal highs - may be made up of stronger chemicals than those found in Class A drugs.

    It follows  the death of a man in Birmingham at the weekend  which has been linked to a substance known as Black Mamba.

    The concerns have been raised by Professor Jonathan Berg, a pathology director at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, who has worked in a lab for the past five years analysing chemicals used in the manufacture of these substances.

    A national waterways charity says it costs £1m a year to clean up the canal network.

    Waste found dumped in canals across the West Midlands includes shopping trolleys, tyres and mobile phones. 

    Peter Birch, from the Canal & River Trust, says the rubbish presents a real problem for people using canals, as well as to wildlife and the environment.

    The high street fashion chain Jaeger has gone into administration , putting 700 jobs at risk in the UK.

    The British retailer's directors appointed administrators after failing to find a suitable buyer for the struggling clothes business.

    Jaeger has 46 stores and 63 concessions, including outlets in Walsall and Birmingham's Great Western Arcade on Colmore Row. There is a concession in Solihull's John Lewis store.

  6. Campaigners protest over closure proposals for Dudley leisure centres published at 10:56 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    Campaigners have protested outside Dudley Council House against plans to close three leisure centres in the borough.

    The authority had revealed proposals to replace centres in Dudley, Halesowen and Stourbridge but some of the people who used them thought it could result in at least one of the towns left without provision. 

    Tracy Wood has used Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge for 15 years and feared her town could be the one to miss out.

    She questioned any argument the centres were not "fit for purpose", saying "fit for whose purpose? [The centres] are certainly fit for the community's purpose because they're used every day.

    "There are queues outside and around the corner to use the leisure pool."

    The BBC Listen Up bus is on tour to gauge your views all this week across Birmingham and the Black Country.

    Yesterday I was in Wolverhampton. Today  the bus is visiting Sandwell Valley Country Park  between 10:00 and 16:00.

    Yesterday we were talking about public transport - whoever's elected will control a £1.1bn investment fund and have powers over how transport is run.

    The Coventry Bees lost their latest Challenge match, going down 53-39 to Wolverhampton.

  9. Rough sleepers set up new tented village in Wolverhamptonpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    Another miniature tented village has been established by rough sleepers in Wolverhampton.

    Back in November we told you about a small camp that popped up in Wolverhampton and now we have learned of another tented village, which is hidden by trees next to train tracks in the city. 

    I was told people had been living in the eight tents for around four months. The council says it has moved them on in the last few days, but says some are returning. 

    The authority says it is continuing to try to find a solution for rough sleepers.

    Ben Godfrey was the only member of the side with any first team league experience.

    He played the full 90 minutes as City fell two goals behind at AFC Telford's New Bucks Head ground.

  12. Arrest over fatal Walsall crashpublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man died in a crash in Walsall. 

    A car and a van were in collision at the junction of Fryers Road and Leamore Lane in Bloxwich at about 23:00 on Sunday.  

    A 21-year-old man, who was travelling in the car, died at the scene. Another car passenger, 20, is in a critical condition in hospital. 

    Police say the 28-year-old driver of the car was arrested and is helping officers with their inquiries.
