West Midlands Police were called to Bourne Green at 18:30 and a 26-year-old man was taken to hospital.
The area is cordoned off while forensic experts examine the scene.
A three-year-old girl is being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in Weoley Castle.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said staff were called to Weoley Castle Road at 10:15 and treated the child before taking her to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
West Midlands Fire Service tweeted, external that 20 firefighters went to the kitchen fire in a flat above a shop.
The accused is due to appear in court again later in July over the death of a man aged 23.

A 15-year-old boy charged with murder has appeared in court.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded at Birmingham Youth Court and will appear before a crown court later this week.
A fight reportedly broke out in Twickenham Road, Kingstanding, at about 13:00 on Saturday. A 23-year-old man suffered fatal stab injuries.
The fire service is dealing with a "severe fire" in an "electricity chamber beneath a pavement" in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham.
West Midlands Fire Service said two crews are there. Stratford Road is currently closed.

Investigations are continuing into how a Staffordshire school girl died in a mini-bus crash on Friday.
The 14-year-old, named locally as Holly Brown, was on a bus carrying pupils from John Taylor High School in Barton Under Needwood, when it collided with a bin lorry on the A38 North of Birmingham.

Wolves have signed once-capped England goalkeeper John Ruddy on a two-year contract after his exit from Norwich.
The 30-year-old's arrival comes four days after Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
However, a statement on the club website, external made it clear they had been pursuing Ruddy "throughout the summer".
Ruddy sent his best wishes to Ikeme and his family.

Four men have died in a week of stabbings in the West Midlands.
The first of the four separate attacks happened last Monday, with the latest on Saturday afternoon.
The offences in Birmingham and Solihull are not linked, but have raised fears about knife crime in the area. Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson told BBC WM, there has been some progress made with knife crime.

An off-duty ambulance worker has been praised for pulling a woman from a burning car in Worcestershire.
The technician was in traffic just behind a fatal crash involving a lorry and four cars on the M42 shortly before 21:00 on Sunday.
The woman was treated for minor burns and an arm injury and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

After fire crews put out the fires, one person was found dead in a burnt out car. Two others were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A woman has been charged with murdering a man who was found with stab wounds in his car, police said.
Philip Rolph, 65, was found with serious injuries in Alder Drive in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, at about 01:00 on Friday.
West Midlands Police said he died in hospital shortly afterwards.
Georgina Henshaw, 35, of Alder Drive, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court later.
Paying tribute to Mr Rolph, his family said the chef and grandfather was "a family man, who was caring, helpful, kind, loving and generous, who loved his life and his work".

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition.
A 53-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a man in Kingstanding.
West Midlands Police say the teenager was arrested on Saturday as they were called to an address in Twickenham Road to reports of fighting. A 23-year-old man died.
The teen will appear before Birmingham youth court today.
Two men, aged 20 and 24, that were also arrested in connection with the enquiry have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A teenager will appear before magistrates in Dudley today after a man was attacked at Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
The 19-year-old victim remains in hospital in a stable condition after he was stabbed on Saturday morning.
A 19-year-old has been charged with wounding.
The judges who will decide whether Birmingham should be England's choice to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022 are looking at the city this week.
Their visit to the West Midlands is likely to include tours of venues like the Alexander Athletics Stadium in Perry Barr and the University of Birmingham which would host hockey and squash.
