    Birmingham City Council has issued detail of road closures and diversions following the fatal crash between a school minibus and a bin lorry on the A38 Kingsbury Road in Castle Vale.

    • A38 Kingsbury Road closed between Tyburn Roundabout (A452 Chester Road) and Midpoint Park
    • Diversion route via A452 Chester Road, Eachelhurst Road, Walmley Ash Road and Minworth Roundabout
    • Access to Castle Vale via A452 Spitfire Roundabout (Tangmere Drive) or Park Lane

    A 14-year-old girl has died in a collision between a minibus and a bin lorry in Castle Vale, Birmingham.

    The girl was a pupil at John Taylor High School in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, police say, external.

    The ambulance service said she was confirmed dead at the scene.

    West Midlands Police said three teachers and 20 other pupils were also on board the coach.

    One pupil was taken to hospital with superficial injuries and several others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

    A man has been jailed for 14 years after he attacked a 73-year-old security guard with a shovel.

    West Midlands Police said the beating lasted for 30 minutes.

    Lee Parsons broke into Stoke Forgings metal factory in Brierley Hill in March but was caught by Joginder Singh Mattu.

    Parsons, 44, of Highgate Road, Holly Hall, Dudley, punched Mr Mattu to the floor and repeatedly hitting him around the head and body with a shovel.

    Parsons was charged with attempted murder and at Wolverhampton Crown Court he was yesterday jailed for 14 years having admitted the offence at an earlier hearing.

    In a statement a family member said: "We’re pleased with the swiftness in which the offender was apprehended.

    "Dad is recovering at home and as a family we would like to draw closure on this incident; we just want to give dad time to recuperate with his family, hopefully make a full recovery and for him to enjoy his retirement."

    A man has died after he was found stabbed in his car - and a woman has been arrested on suspicion of his murder.

    The ambulance service was called to Alder Drive, Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, at around 01.00 this morning but a 65-year-old "local man" died at the scene.

    A 35-year-old woman is in police custody.

    Detective Chief Inspector Edward Foster said: "The victim was able to raise the alarm but sadly died a short while later.

    "We are now appealing for anyone who was in the area in the early hours of this morning to contact us so that we can establish what has led to this incident.

    "The scene has been cordoned off and the car is being forensically examined."

    A man has been stabbed in Chelmsley Wood in the early hours of this morning.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man is in a "serious condition" in hospital after suffering a single stab wound to the chest.

    The service was called to Alder Drive at around 00:50 and there are several road closures still in place.

    Emergency services are at the scene of a "serious collision" on the A38 Kingsbury Road in Castle Vale.

    The statement on John Taylor High School's website added they are "unclear of specific details and are awaiting confirmation from the authorities."

    A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to Kingsbury Road on the A38 at 09:00 this morning.

    They said it is a serious road traffic accident and they have numerous resources at the scene.

    Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

    I spoke earlier to former England and Wolves footballer Geoff Thomas, who has himself battled leukaemia and is currently cycling in France to raise money for a leukaemia charity.

    He said: "[The news] hit me really hard, I was having a bad day on the bike yesterday, we did 130 miles in the searing heat and I was thinking why am I doing this?

    "I really contemplated getting off, thankfully I didn't. Then I was inundated with messages about Carl's illness and it just really hit me. It took me back to when I was diagnosed. I know exactly what he's going through, it's a painful period over the next few weeks getting all the information. I just wish him well, him and his family.

    "You think you're fit and healthy and you get that news, it’s devastating."

    Prices will rise for car drivers using the M6 Toll, operator Midland Expressway Limited (MEL) has said.

    The new prices will apply to cars during weekdays, increasing by 40p from 7 August. HGV prices will be frozen.

    It will be the first rise in five years and reflects, MEL says, a "partial catch‐up with inflation".

    The new car toll prices will be £5.90 for daytime main tolls and £4.40 for daytime ramps, known as local tolls.

    Prices for all other classes of vehicle remain unchanged as do night and weekend prices.
